Recently, Keyshia Cole and Ashanti broke records after the hotly anticipated Verzuz battle, which finally happened last month between the two R&B singers.

The popular US TV contest has seen many rappers and singers compete against each other for the crown, but it also provides an opportunity for artists to promote themselves and their work.

And it seems Keyshia Cole and Ashanti did just that, bringing in 6 million viewers on Instagram during their battle and earning 11.3 million streams between them in the days following.

Keyshia Cole, 39, received over 6 million streams since the showdown, with rival Ashanti, 40, collecting at least 5.3 million streams in the same time frame.

Since July last year, fans of the musicians had been waiting for the battle to take place after speculation began when Keyshia Cole left a comment inviting Ashanti to take her on in a Verzuz challenge.

The comment was made while DMX and Snoop Dogg were battling it out between them during the three-hour-long session, which is aired to fans on social media.

And in the lead-up, streams for both Keyshia and Ashanti increased by a massive 178%. The event had been postponed twice, including in December 2020, when Ashanti tested positive for coronavirus.

After the battle finally took place on January 22, Ashanti released a new single, “2:35 (I Want You),” which claimed more than 536,000 streams in just two days. Cole later released “I Don’t Wanna Be In Love,” which also did very well online.

Even on the day, fans were unsure whether the contest would go ahead, with Keyshia arriving late and failing to take her seat after problems with the music and the visuals, which she later put down on “technical difficulties.”

The women both began performing at an early age, and at the age of 12, Ashanti was given a small acting role. At the same age, Keyshia began working alongside MC Hammer.
