At the age of 50, DMX has died. The legendary rapper with a unique and unforgettable voice, (due to bronchial asthma), passed away with his family, including his 15 children by his side.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, had been hospitalized for one week after an apparent drug overdose in his White Plains home.
The New York MC suffered a massive heart attack and was placed on life support. It appears that DMX’s cause of death is organ failure.
On Friday, DMX’s family issued a statement confirming the sad news of his death. DMX’s loved ones and family remembered him as a warrior and asked for privacy as they plan his funeral.
DMX’s funeral date will be announced in the upcoming days.
His representative said: “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him.”
The statement went on to say: “Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.”
It concluded by: “Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
While DMX was famous for his music, fans also appreciate him as a wonderful father to his 15 children. The rap icon and animal lover also had an extraordinary bond with his goddaughter, Paige Hurd.
The “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” rapper’s youngest child is a little boy name Exodus, born in 2016, whom he shares with his longtime partner/fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom.
DMX also has a young daughter named after his friend, the late singer Aaliyah Haughton. The mother of the little girl is not known.
DMX, who starred in the movie Romeo Must Die alongside Aaliyah, revealed why he picked the name: “This is my own personal, special tribute to Aaliyah. This is Aaliyah. It’s my newest baby, and I named her after Aaliyah because that’s how special she was to me. Know that you’re named after an angel.”
DMX and Tashera Simmons have four children together. The pair, who was married from 1999 to 2014, shares sons Xavier, 28, Tacoma, 21, Sean, 18, and Praise Mary Ella Simmons, 15.
DMX fathered a child with Monique Wayne and has two more with ex Yadira Borrego. Borrego shared a beautiful picture of many of DMX’s children together at the hospital before his passing.
He welcomed a daughter named Sonovah Junior in 2008.
