Queen Elizabeth II‘s patience with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be wearing thin, and it was allegedly very likely for the monarch to take away the titles of the powerful pair in “declaration of war” — but that doing so would be a huge mistake.
A move from Queen Elizabeth to punish the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be a great PR win for the duo.
Prince Harry’s recent announcement that he plans to write a tell-all autobiography about his life as a prince has come as a shock to the royal family, with reports that the royals did not know how to react to the news.
Prince Harry said that he did not need Her Majesty‘s permission to write about the secrets of the British royal family.
According to royal expert and journalist Jonathan Sacerdoti, if the monarch stripped Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their titles, they could play the victims again as they did during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During the controversial sit-down with the media mogul, they stated that there was a member of the royal family who was concerned if their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, would have dark skin.
Sacerdoti explained that it was possible for the Queen to retaliate against the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, mainly because their actions were unpredictable, and Prince Harry’s upcoming book promised to be quite revealing.
However, the journalist also stated: “But I think it will be massively controversial for the Royal Family to do that, and it would be something of a declaration of war on the couple.”
Sacerdoti explained further that even if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex lost their royal titles, it would still be a “win-win” for them, as this could help for their PR strategy and their narrative that the royal family cut them off financially after they quit their positions as senior royals or that no security was offered for their firstborn child, Archie.
The royal expert went on to reveal: “To remove their titles would, in fact, play into their whole PR strategy, which is why it could be a win-win for them. To remove their titles plays into their own creation of their image as victims.”
The broadcaster said if Elizabeth II announces any major decisions that would have a negative impact on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s status, they would rapidly turn the table on her.
He elaborated: “They have started a narrative where the Royal Family has cut them off, even though they left the Royal Family, where they were denied security for their child, even though that has been suggested to be wrong based on the motivations they cited.”
Sacerdoti continued: “And so to have their titles removed would only play into that narrative and they could say that they have been cast aside, persecuted because they’re living what they call their true lives they’re, they’re telling their true stories and their own personal truths.”
He went to reveal why the world is fascinated by the clash that has been taking place between the couple and almost the entire British clan: “It’s a clash of worlds; it’s a clash of the celebrity world against the monarchy world. It’s a clash of modern parlance against very staid British aristocratic royal phrasing of things. And this is why it’s constantly fascinating for the world to watch and very difficult for the royal family to go through.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are trying to become global brands.
