It appears that the main reason why Meghan Markle did not fit well into the British royal family was that she could not let go of her American mindset and the “American dream.”
According to some royal experts, Meghan Markle has big dreams of being a superstar who has the power to make change while being disruptive in society.
Royal commentator Emily Andrews made this revelation in a program that focuses on Meghan Markle as she enters a new decade in her life: “She doesn’t want to go and be Mrs. Mountbatten-Windsor raising her chickens and growing her own organic veg. She wants to be a superstar, and she wants to be this change-maker, she wants to be this disruptive.”
Julie Montagu and others with knowledge of the ins and out of the royal family sat down to talk about why Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, rapidly fled London and returned to her native California.
According to Montagu, who appeared in the production, it was apparently extremely hard for the Duchess of Sussex to move to the UK and start this totally different life with her in-laws.
Julie Montagu, who was born in America but received the title Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, via her marriage to Luke Timothy Charles Montagu, the son of the 11th Earl of Sandwich, also stated that life with the British royal family meant that “You can’t really be anything you want to be or do anything you want to do or say anything you want to say.”
Montagu explained further that it was very hard for an American like Meghan Markle to grasp the concept that her duty had to be focused on serving the Queen and “to switch off that American dream.”
Montagu said that Meghan Markle most likely decided to pack her belongings and leave England after being told no by Queen Elizabeth when she tried to push some of her disruptive ideas.
She stated the former senior royal’s drastic reaction to having the Queen shut her down: “It’s difficult to have love and duty work simultaneously and together, and that’s what Harry and Meghan wanted in negations with the Queen, this synergy, that they can make work, but the Queen said no.”
Tom Quinn, a renowned author of historical novels, chimed in: “Meghan thought when she entered the royal family, she could shake things up, and they would love it. They would do things Meghan’s way. And when that didn’t happen, and when she came up against what she sees as the forces of reaction, it made us so upset. That that interview was her way to get revenge.”
The controversial interview that the Sussexes gave to Oprah Winfrey was also mentioned during the new documentary.
According to Tom Quinn, it was most likely that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were initially hoping to get an apology from the rest of the royals by telling out their truth but must have been horrified by the way the royal family responded to the interview.
Quinn speculated that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry wanted an apology and added: “I think they were hoping for an apology, and they were hoping they would phone and say, “We’re sorry we push you too far. We should have sat you down and spoke about your mental health issue.”
The power couple and the royal family still have a lot to do to fix the relationship.
