It seems that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s latest actions and appearances show that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have much more freedom of speech when it comes to politics and other controversial topics in comparison to the rest of the British royal family.
While Queen Elizabeth II and the other members of her famous family have to tiptoe around important political, race, and social issues affecting the world, Meghan Markle and her husband have become the “wokest” royals ever.
Kate Middleton is not big on speeches; she mainly plays the role of the loyal wife and doting mother who supports certain charities near and dear to her heart.
Meanwhile, an emboldened Meghan Markle and the Duke of Sussex have caused chaos by meddling in the U.S. election, spoke about police brutality after the murder of George Floyd, and demanded that the British Monarchy face their colonial past head-on.
The former senior royals recently shared how they felt about the disastrous earthquake in Haiti and addressed the current situation in Afghanistan by stating they were “heartbroken” with the Taliban coming to power in the country and eliminating the few rights that were given to women.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reacted to the Taliban takeover by putting a lengthy message on their official website, in which they urged everyone with influence or power to rapidly “advance the humanitarian dialogues that are expected to take place this fall at multilateral gatherings such as the U.N. General Assembly and the G20 Leader’s Summit.”
According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, because of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s “unusual situation” and their distancing from the royals, they are now able to express their opinions on political matters, whereas working members of the British royal family have to remain politically neutral.
The royal insider stated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not have such constraints anymore and added that the statement of the Sussexes was “clearly constructive,” given the fact that Prince Harry spent some time of his military career in Afghanistan.
While Prince William and Kate Middleton dressed up nicely, hitting red carpets and meddling with high-profile celebrities, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle headed to New York to call on world leaders to make vaccine equality a reality during the Global Citizen Live event that was called by some “Wokestock.”
The pair also visited the U.N. to discuss the matter further. Another royal expert, Judi James, weighed in on the appearance and said that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was “eloquent and passionate,” and her speech was powerful.
She added that the former TV star’s confidence had made her the star in the couple. She revealed: “In performance terms, it was Harry who seemed to recognize his wife as the lead star, gazing at her with eyes slightly narrowed to show pride but also performing some anxiety rituals like clothing and finger-fiddling as he watched her more powerful speech.”
Fitzwilliams concluded by saying that even though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were free of the constraints of the royal protocol, their words are bound to receive some attention because they are still part of the British royal family.
Fitzwilliams said: “It is also important to bear in mind that their intervention will receive the attention it gets because they are members of the Royal Family.”
The power couple is trying to turn advocacy into a lucrative business.
