Prince Harry and Meghan Markle fled the UK in early 2020 because they felt they were facing an “entire institution” that saw them as irrelevant, according to a book.
After her big lavish royal wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle spent a brief period as a working member of the British royal family.
The pair took part in multiple duties and represented Queen Elizabeth II and the Commonwealth.
However, the couple left London on January 8, 2020, after sharing a surprising message on Instagram announcing their decision to seek financial freedom and transition into progressive independent royals.
They promised to spend their time between America and England — that has become an impossible mission. The power couple said they would jump into their new progressive roles while honoring the institution.
In an updated edition of his bestselling book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Andrew Morton revealed why the duo decided to step back from their senior roles.
According to the royal expert, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle believed that the constitution and the Firm were conspiring against them based on a photo.
Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and his spouse divorced the royal family over an official portrait released by Queen Elizabeth that featured only the heirs to the throne.
Her Majesty posed with her son, Prince Charles, her grandson, Prince William, and her great-grandson, Prince George.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry saw the photo as the writing on the wall.
The author shared that the image served as evidence that they were not needed to help the monarchy and added: “The royal couple suspected that the entire institution was conspiring against them. As they saw it, the evidence was all around them. The unspoken code was straightforward: the future of the monarchy was assured, with or without Meghan and Harry.”
Morton revealed that Prince Harry’s fear was confirmed after Queen Elizabeth canceled a meeting that she had scheduled with him to talk about his future.
He wrote: “This sense that, despite their international popularity, they were low down the royal totem pole was confirmed when Harry arranged to meet the Queen for a grandson-to-grandmother chat in early January.”
Morton went on to reveal: “At the last minute, the meeting was postponed. Harry suspected classic internal politics; his family was concerned that anything the Queen agreed during informal conversations would be used by Harry as a negotiating tactic.”
After the cancellation, Prince Harry exited England with his spouse and young son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Meghan Markle and her son have since not returned to London. The couple welcomed a baby girl, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, who has never met her British relatives.
The pair has become indeed progressive, and some would even say woke. The activists have boldly meddled in politics and have often lobbied the American government to pass laws that benefit everyday citizens, and they called for third-world countries to receive COVID-19 vaccines.
They ruffled many feathers with their bombshell interviews and will rattle the monarchy some more with Prince Harry’s upcoming tell-all book.
The duo might travel to London this Christmas to see the Queen, who recently had a minor health scare despite the drama and bombshell.
