Meghan Markle confirmed that she had an uncomfortable moment with her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, before her big royal wedding to Prince Harry.
The former actress said that they rapidly resolved the matter after an apology but never claimed that they became great friends afterward.
A royal author has added new chapters to his best-selling book to explain why the two accomplished ladies did not create a bond while Meghan Markle was living in London.
In the biography Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Andrew Morton writes that elements beyond the Duchess of Cambridge‘s control made it impossible for her to create a lasting relationship with Meghan Markle.
The writer revealed that when Meghan Markle lept into the royal life with the announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry, Kate Middleton was pregnant with Prince Louis, struggling and suffering from severe nausea.
Prince William‘s wife was at the beginning of her third pregnancy when Prince Harry and the philanthropist started preparing their big wedding ceremony.
According to the book, Kate Middleton suffered from extreme morning sickness and was even briefly hospitalized because of hyperemesis gravidarum.
Kate Middleton’s condition implied that she did not have “much energy” to bond with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
In the unauthorized biography, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, Morton revealed: “Kate and Meghan were neither sisters nor, unlike Fergie and Diana, friends before they joined the Royal Family. What is more, during the build-up to Meghan’s wedding, Kate was experiencing her third difficult pregnancy and was focused on her own welfare. She did not have much energy to bond with her new neighbor.”
The royal commentator went on to shed light on Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s big public outing during the Ladies’ Singles Final at Wimbledon in 2018.
He said that the women barely knew each other and added: “Unlike Wimbledon 2016, when the cameras focused on Pippa Middleton and Anna Wintour and ignored the unknown American actor, this time they were fixated on the duo of duchesses. After the Wimbledon appearance, there was little opportunity for them to develop a friendship away from public events”.
He continued: “It was a practical matter as much as anything. Kate spent weekends and holidays at Anmer Hall, the Cambridges’ country home in Norfolk, while Meghan and Harry were approximately three hours’ drive away, living in a large, remote, rented property on the Great Tew estate in Oxfordshire.”
After the public appearance, it was claimed that Meghan Markle made Kate Middleton cry. During her bombshell interview, Meghan Markle revealed that the contrary occurred.
She said that Kate Middleton had her in tears over an incident days before her wedding.
He concluded by: “Harry’s dream of two united happy families seemed a long way off.”
In the updated version of the book, he also explained that Kate Middleton and Prince William’s overall attitude led to the Sussexes’ hasty exit from London and public divorce from the royal family in early 2020.
He wrote: “The Duchess of Cambridge’s coolness towards Meghan and William’s alleged bullying contributed to a devastating ‘Cain and Abel’ fallout between the brother.”
The royal family is still divided after the sit-down with Oprah Winfrey.
