However, according to reliable royal sources, who spoke to the American media, it seems that plans for the power couple to travel to London with their young children have been canceled.
For most of the summer, reports claimed that Meghan Markle and her spouse were mulling over the idea of returning to England to be by Queen Elizabeth’s side for multiple reasons.
The duo wanted her to finally meet her great-granddaughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
The 5-month-old, who carries the Queen‘s name, has yet to be physically introduced to any of her royal relatives in England.
It was widely speculated that Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, were also hoping to use the opportunity to christen baby Lilibet Diana.
It would have been Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor‘s first trip to his birth country since he left in early 2020 with his parents.
The last time Markle and her husband were at Sandringham for Christmas with the royal family was in 2018.
It was assumed that the new California residents were eager to be with the aging Queen because she recently suffered a health scare that led to her being hospitalized.
Queen Elizabeth was also forced to cancel multiple trips and royal public duties as she stayed in her castle to recuperate.
It was also assumed that the Sussex clan would join Her Majesty for the year-end festivities to help her through her sadness of spending her first Christmas without her beloved late husband, Prince Philip.
According to the source, Queen Elizabeth made the gesture of extending an invitation to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to come to Sandringham for the holidays despite all the drama and bombshell interviews that took place this year.
It is not known why but the independent royals have declined the olive branch and will instead celebrate in their $14 million mansion in California with very close friends and family members.
And it seems that the royal family had a quick and brutal response to the duo’s decision to turn down the invitation.
The source, who spoke to the publication, has claimed: “There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, the staff knows that Harry and Meghan are not coming. If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now.”
The insider hinted that the royal family would have overlooked the shocking revelations and truth bombs and welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the special gathering for the sake of the Queen.
The person stated: “But this is Her Majesty’s first Christmas without her husband, so one would have hoped they would want to be with her.”
Many fans of the couple have taken to social media to say they are angry and disappointed that Markle and the prince are not making an effort to see the frail Queen when she needs her family around her.
