It seems that Queen Elizabeth II, who has been in power for 70 years, knows a thing or two on how to play the political and PR game.
It has been revealed that Her Majesty knew before anyone else that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle‘s departure from England was permanent.
Despite having that insider knowledge, Her Majesty played along with Markle and Prince Harry and gave them what she deemed was a grace period of 12 months to change their minds and return to London.
In early 2020, Prince Harry and the retired American actress sent shock waves to the world.
The pair also turned the well-oiled machines of the British royal family upside down when they announced that they were stepping down from their royal duties.
The powerful couple then shared their decision to relocate to a new country and become financially independent.
After a brief stay in Canada, Markle, her spouse, and their son, Archie, moved to a mansion in California, where they have since added to the family.
The pair welcomed a baby girl named Lilibet Diana in June of 2021.
A new report has come out via the Daily Mail and shed light on what was going on in Buckingham Palace when the prince and his spouse made their announcement.
The media outlet also revealed the truth about the touching statement that she issued after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed they were exiting their royal duties and the country.
At the time, Her Majesty explained that Markle and Prince Harry are valued members of the royal family, and she respects their decision to forge a new path for themselves.
The sovereign shared: “Today, my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
Queen Elizabeth also announced that she would review the decision after 12 months.
The Queen deemed that the pair could use that year as a grace period to think about the situation, though, and if they decided to come back home, they would be welcomed.
However, deep down inside, Queen Elizabeth always knew the truth — her grandson and his family would never come back to his home country because of one specific action.
Asked by a visitor if she expected Prince Harry and his spouse to resume royal life, the Daily Mail reports the Queen had this heartbreaking response: “Of course not. They took the dogs.”
Indeed, since exiting London, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to travel to London together.
Prince Harry flew back home for two solo and somber events. He has cited security concerns for not bringing his wife and two children to the UK.
Prince Harry recently canceled his trip to London to be with Queen Elizabeth at his late grandfather’s memorial service and almost immediately announced his plans to be miles away in Holland for a sporting event.
Some royal experts suggest that Markle will never step foot in England after her misadventure in the country.
Others are furious that Prince Harry is not making any efforts for the aging Queen to meet her great-granddaughter.
