Sources close to Prince William have come out in force to talk about his strained relationship with his younger brother, Prince Harry.
They revealed that Prince Charles‘s sons have not seen eye to eye since “Megxit” when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties in early 2020.
The pals also gave a glimmer of hope by saying that Prince Harry (and Meghan Markle) could use the venue offered to them to win back Prince William’s trust.
A source close to Prince William revealed to Us Weekly that he has not been “in a good place” with Prince Harry for years.
The relationship took its biggest hit when Prince Harry and Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a bombshell interview where countless embarrassing revelations were made about the British royal family.
Meghan Markle said she was having suicidal thoughts and dealing with other mental health-related issues while in the Palace walls but did not receive the proper help she needed.
Prince Harry dropped the bombshell that a member of the royal family made racist remarks about his unborn children.
The duo has refused to name the high-profile person. Prince Harry also made this confession: “I love William to bits. We’ve been through hell together, and we have a shared experience, but we are on different paths.”
Speaking about Prince Charles and Prince William, Prince Harry said they were both “trapped” within the monarchy.
He added: “The relationship is space at the moment, and time heals all things, hopefully.”
The royal source claimed that the Duke of Cambridge, 40, and the Duke of Sussex, 37, “hit rock bottom” after the sit-down.
And despite being reunited on several occasions — most recently for Queen Elizabeth II‘s Platinum Jubilee, they have not been able to repair the bond that is now described as “doomed” and “irreparable.”
The insider said: “William doesn’t know who [Harry] is anymore, and the trust between them is strained, especially after the royal family was burned so many times by Harry’s vocal criticism. They’ll never recover from the damage that has been done.”
Prince Harry has lost his brother’s trust with the interviews, and he plans to further destroy the shred of the cordial relationship that they have left with the tell-all book due out this year.
The friend was blunt — Prince William does not want Prince Harry to publish a book that will further stain the royals.
The friend said: “The upcoming memoir has already caused a stir among his relatives before its release. William does not want his brother writing a book on the royal family.”
Prince William has put his foot down and made it clear that he will no longer play nice with his brother in public because he has lost interest in playing pretend.
The family source stated: “William is willing to be civil to a point, but he’s done with any public charades that they’ve reconciled. He’s not going to play happy families with them again or pretend that everything’s A-OK when it’s anything but.”
Some royal pundits believe that Prince Harry and Markle could win back Prince William and the rest of the royal family if they take a positive turn with the book.
Prince Harry is bold enough to surprise the world with an uplifting book about the royals.
According to royal expert Omid Scobie, that is the path Prince Harry has chosen with the book.
He recently said: “I think as much as the press want this to be a burn book and an attack on the institution, this is more just about his story, and, of course, his story is so much more than just a few years of his life as the Duke of Sussex. I think for people expecting that warts and all moment, it’s not going to happen. That said, it’s still going to be fascinating.”
Some are wondering if the general public will have the same interest in a positive book.
