Meghan Markle is learning that not all headlines are good for her image. Recently, Markle sat down alongside her husband, Prince Harry, for a significant interview.
Shortly after the revealing conversation between the former actress and the CBS reporter aired, some drama unfolded.
Markle and Prince Harry used the sit down to launch their latest project, which aims to help parents whose children were harmed by online bullying.
However, the journalist rattled Markle by bringing up the most painful confession she has made in her life.
The mother of two told Oprah Winfrey during the 2020 sit-down that she had suicidal thoughts when she was a working member of the Royal Family.
Journalist Jane Pauley quickly pointed out that her personal and emotional line of questioning left Markle rather uncomfortable.
She said: “Contemplating killing yourself is what suicidal ideation was. And I’m dancing around this because I could see you’re uncomfortable with me even going there…”
Markle’s surprise at the question was palpable. She admitted to being caught off guard: “I understand why you are, though – I wasn’t expecting it, but I understand why you are because there is a through-line, I think. And when you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, I believe part of our healing journey (certainly part of mine) is being able to be really open about it. And you know, I haven’t scraped the surface of my experience. So, if my voicing what I have overcome will save someone or encourage someone in their life to genuinely check in on them and not assume that their appearance is good, so everything’s okay, then that’s worth it. I’ll take a hit for that.”
Royal commentator Angela Levin explained that Markle went into a screaming match with the TV staff after the interview because of the painful question.
The royal expert said: “After the interview was over, she was screaming to the producers, very, very annoyed at what they had asked her,” going on to say, “You mustn’t do that with Meghan because she’s in control. But you could see she couldn’t contain her anger, her fury.”
She added: “Just the same as in and out of the interview, she couldn’t stand Harry speaking. She would look at him with such harsh eyes and such a terrible expression on her face because she didn’t want him to talk, I imagine.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very focused on expanding their brand.
