Meghan Markle and her husband have not been impacted by the horrific fires burning through California that have led to 10 people dead and thousands displaced.
Prince Harry and Markle have opened their home to those close to them and are in need during this terrible event.
In a statement issued via their Archewell Foundation, the power couple expressed their compassion and well wishes to the thousands of people who were forced to evacuate because of the raging Palisades and Eaton Fires.
Prince Harry and Markle have also urged those who can to check on and help their neighbors who might need dire assistance during this difficult time.
The royals said: “A state of emergency has been issued. If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas. If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.”
The statement concluded with a plea to donate clothes, toys, and necessities to those who have lost everything.
PEOPLE can confirm: “The couple has opened their home to friends and loved ones forced to evacuate. The foundation is also looking for volunteer opportunities to assist with mental health recovery for those needing immediate help and will facilitate long-term recovery efforts. The Sussex family works with chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen to provide further relief efforts. Harry and Meghan also donated essential supplies, clothing, and children’s items.”
However, it seems that Prince Harry and the former actress might have undone all the great work because of a television appearance.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were filmed helping and comforting Los Angeles wildfire victims outside the Pasadena Convention Center on Friday.
The prince and his wife worked with Pasadena’s mayor, Victor Gordo, to distribute food and supplies to the evacuees and people who lost their homes.
Meghan Markle and her spouse also expressed appreciation to first responders, including Los Angeles County firefighters and police.
King Charles III‘s youngest son met with chef and World Central Kitchen founder José Andrés to thank him for the outstanding job he and his team have been doing feeding the victims of the fires.
The news footage of Markle and Prince Harry rapidly went viral, and it caused quite a stir. Many bashed the couple for pulling yet another publicity stunt or PR move to look good in a crisis.
However, the mayor has decided to defend Prince Harry and Markle by sharing some essential details about their visit.
The mayor told Fox 11 that the couple was not there for the publicity; he insisted that they came to work. The politician claimed: “It’s great people, great personalities, and a heart for them to come out here and meet with the first responders and those affected. It’s very important. They really buoyed the spirits of the first responders. People were pleased to see them.”
He went on to tell the media outlet: “They want to be as helpful as they can be … we visited with some affected families in some of the burned-out areas in Pasadena and Altadena. They took the time to meet the affected people and spend time with them. They’re just very caring people concerned for their friends and neighbors.”
Earlier in the day, Gordo said Prince Harry and Markle visited World Central Kitchen anonymously and served food while wearing masks to shield their faces and protect themselves from the smoke.
