This week, the former actress and her spouse, Prince Harry, made a significant decision to serve the community.
The pair decided to give a helping hand to volunteers who were working with evacuees and firefighters during Califonia’s horrific fires.
Prince Harry and the Netflix cooking star served meals, spoke to victims, and donated items outside the Pasadena Convention Center.
Markle and Prince Harry’s moment of good deeds was caught on camera. Fox 11 cameras followed the power couple as they spoke to local politicians and embraced those impacted by the inferno.
The footage went viral, and the backlash was harsh and brutal. Many slammed them on social media for yet another PR stunt or gimmick to show the world they are royals in action trying to outdo Prince William, King Charles III, and Kate Middleton.
The most brutal criticism came from a well-known actress. Justine Bateman slammed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, saying their appearance with the many was a “repulsive photo-op.”
She wrote: “Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive “photo op” they achieved. They are “touring the damage”? Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists. #PalisadesFire.”
Via Page Six, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attacked the Family Ties alum by calling her statement offensive.
A source close to Prince Harry and Markle said: “It’s offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think this is merely a photo opportunity.”
Markle went on to share a mini biography, reminding the world that she was born and raised in California. The source stated: “The pair live approximately 90 miles north of the city. Meghan was born and raised in Los Angeles, so this is, and always will be, home to her. She is not just a tourist, and her heart is completely broken for all the lives that have been lost and for those whose homes have been destroyed in these fires.”
This insider added: “Harry and Meghan invested significant time and resources and donated money and essential items.”
Some believe that Markle and Prince Harry should follow in the footsteps of the Royal Family and respond with dignified silence to the wild comments and chatter.
