Meghan Markle has been observing the Royal Family’s jubilant celebration of a truly joyous moment from a distance.
The former actress and her husband, Prince Harry, are finding time in their busy and complicated schedules to be part of these life-changing events.
However, they were quickly reminded that they would not be welcomed. This week, Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi announced the birth of their royal baby.
The couple welcomed a second daughter named Athena. The eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, posted a sweet photo of the infant dressed and sleeping in a little basket.
Royal supporters celebrated the happy news, and reports quickly emerged that Prince Harry and Markle believed it was an opportunity to fly to the UK to meet the precious baby and possibly see other Royal Family members.
According to BBC reporter Jennie Bond, via the Mirror: “I imagine that Beatrice has already pinged a picture or two [or Athena] to Harry and Meghan.”
The journalist said that the Sussexes will do their best to meet the baby during a trip for a charity event. She said: “I don’t think it will hasten their visit to the UK, but perhaps if charity work or business brings Harry this way, he’ll be keen to meet his new cousin.”
Bond also reflected on the impact Athena’s arrival will have on the royals. She stated: “This was lovely news. After the brutality of last year for so many of the Royal Family, 2025 is looking altogether brighter. It must have been rather alarming to have such a premature and tiny baby. I think the hospital has to be commended for keeping the birth completely confidential for a week. But all, it seems, is well and the family are obviously delighted.”
She also expressed her admiration for the beautiful name, noting that while it deviates from tradition, it is a fitting tribute to Princess Beatrice’s late grandfather, Prince Philip, who had Greek roots.
The author said: “I think family has become ever more important for the beleaguered Prince Andrew , and perhaps one of his main roles in life these days is to be a doting grandad. And I’m sure that Fergie will be just as besotted as little Athena’s parents are. I think it’s a rather lovely name, and it’s about time that the Royal family moved away from strictly traditional names. These days everyone seems to be coming up with unusual names – though I’m sure in a month or two there will be Athenas popping up everywhere.”
Markle and Prince Harry also poked Princess Beatrice on one of the biggest days of her life.
The couple almost ruined Princess Beatrice’s wedding day by announcing they were expecting their first child. This, along with their public accusations and revelations about the Royal Family, has led to a strained relationship and the clan’s reluctance to welcome them during this joyous occasion.
The Royal Family, particularly King Charles III, Kate Middleton, and Prince William may not be interested in their visit due to past tensions and the potential disruption it could cause to the celebration.
