Earlier this year, Kate Middleton was being courted by the mother of fashion herself, Anna Wintour, to grace the cover of Vogue.
The Daily Mail, which first reported the story, explained that the future Queen of the UK was given carte blanche to appear in the fashion bible.
Princess Kate would select her photographer and have access to the top fashion designers, allowing her to be featured on the cover and share her extraordinary story as a Queen-in-the-making and a cancer survivor.
Catherine, Princess of Wales, decided that her role in this world was to serve the monarchy and the British people, and she turned down the offer.
In the wake of Middleton’s surprise and unexpected rejection of Anna Wintour’s offer, the Daily Mail has revealed that Meghan Markle faced the opposite fate in the hands of the editor-in-chief of American Vogue.
Meghan Markle was humiliated by Anna Wintour, who banned her from gracing the cover of Vogue due to her perceived diva-like and demanding ways.
According to sources who spoke to the Mail, the global chief content officer of Condé Nast and her team had planned to have Markle on the cover of Vogue‘s September 2022 issue.
The idea was to have Markle’s cover coincide with her significant appearance at the One Young World Summit in Manchester that same month.
The Summit is a global forum for young leaders, and Markle’s participation was expected to draw significant attention, making the Vogue cover a valuable platform for her message.
Markle was supposed to work with her then-close friend, Edward Enninful, the former editor of British Vogue.
Enninful’s support and influence in the fashion industry were expected to enhance the cover’s impact, making Markle’s behavior even more surprising and disappointing to the Vogue team.
According to Condé Nast insiders, the issue was abruptly pulled and scrapped altogether because Prince Harry‘s wife was being difficult about making it a cover.
The person in the know went on to share more details about the drama that took place between Markle and Wintour:”Her team was insisting on a particular strapline. Anna heard about it and just banned her, saying, “That’s it.” We don’t want to do this. And so she didn’t get the cover, and she didn’t even get the story. [Edward] probably agreed with Anna that you don’t get to call the shots on who’s on the cover. That’s an editor’s decision.”
The insider stated: “Anna was p***** off. Anna was frustrated with all the micromanaging and just was like, “All right. That’s it. She can’t have the cover, and we’re not doing the story.”
The source added that fashion’s high priestess was royally angry at Markle, who had more demands than Beyoncé.
The person stated: “Meghan’s level of desire for detail and control on the media is almost like Beyoncé’s level… but she’s not Beyoncé.”
Insiders claimed that the scandal also led to a rift between Meghan Markle and Edward Enninful.
