King Charles III had been preparing all his life to be a Monarch.
Still, he did not expect to be battling cancer after his first year on the throne and face the many problems unleashed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and the political and social storm caused by President Donald Trump.
King Charles has been able to navigate the drama caused by Prince Harry and Markle by ignoring them.
However, His Majesty cannot simply disregard Trump’s bombastic and controversial threats against Canada or the EU.
While King Charles can decline to meet or talk with Prince Harry, he cannot behave the same way toward the wild card known as Donald Trump.
For these reasons, King Charles finds himself in a challenging predicament involving the US president. His attempts to navigate this situation have so far been unsuccessful, leaving him deeply frustrated and in disbelief.
Every other week, Trump humiliates Canada, its people, and the government. The latest blow to his northern neighbour took place this week.
According to a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump has reopened his feud with Canada by brutally ending trade talks with Canadian officials over its plans to continue taxing technology firms.
Trump wrote: “Based on this egregious tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately. We will let Canada know the Tariff that they will be paying to do business with the United States of America within the next seven-day period,’ Trump said in his post.”
Disregarding the fact that Charles is in charge of Canada — His Majesty is head of State — Trump and his associates are determined to assert their dominance, showing a blatant disrespect for the King‘s authority.
Of course, King Charles is infuriated by Trump’s constant decision to undermine his authority. He is pushing back on Prime Minister Keir Starmer‘s eagerness to spend millions of dollars to throw the president a grandiose and pompous event during his state visit.
King Charles proposed that he and Trump meet informally over the summer at his holiday home, Balmoral Castle, when both are expected to be in Scotland.
His Majesty would prefer that the full “bells and whistles” state visit A state visit will occur later in Trump’s second term in office.
According to the London Times and AP: “Trump had rejected this cautious approach. Trump clarified that his preference was for a full visit first, which would not be overshadowed by an informal handshake picture.”
Royal sources claimed that the King’s blood was boiling over the situation, and the leak revealing Trump’s rejection further frustrated him.
A former courtier told the Daily Beast: “Charles has been bounced into doing it now by Trump. It’s embarrassing for the palace, which sent the letter suggesting that there was going to be this cozy, informal visit first, but it looks like Trump saw that for what it was: an attempt to kick the can down the road. Given the general anxiety around the King’s health, you can understand where Trump comes from.”
The world will watch a frustrated King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William have an awkward banquet with Trump in the fall.
