Prince William has long had plans for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle once he ascends the throne.
He is especially eager to permanently strip them of their titles, particularly those of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, so they cannot be passed down to his nephew and niece.
With a single word, however, the former actress, now a TV host and businesswoman, has reportedly thrown cold water on William‘s scheduled masterstroke to punish the pair.
Close friends and associates of the future King have had multiple conversations with reporters from prominent outlets, including The Daily Beast, Vanity Fair, and The Daily Mail.
Their accounts align with those of current and former staff members, who insist that William is not weak or hesitant like his father, King Charles III. They believe that with his pen and the aid of the British government, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will lose any shred of honors, privilege, or ties to the monarchy.
A former courtier for Prince William explained to The Daily Beast: “Charles might be happy to put up with this, but William won’t. He loathes and despises Harry and Meghan with every bone in his body; he believes they have betrayed everything the family stands for, and the idea that they are using their royal status as a calling card will enrage him.”
A friend of William’s added to the sentiment by sharing with the same outlet: “Charles has completely lost control. It’s apparent that Harry and Meghan have every intention of making his final years a misery, just as he feared they would. Meghan using her HRH exposes how weak and enfeebled he is. She knows he won’t do anything. There is no way King William will stand for this. The titles will simply be removed when he is king. A way will be found.”
However, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have taken a swift, clever, and effective approach to the matter. It seems they have outsmarted Prince William.
In an interview, Meghan Markle declared herself untouchable and unpunishable by Prince William’s wrath. She explained that because she has legally changed her name to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, she has effectively neutralized William’s ability to take any legal action against her. According to the interview, the single word “legally” dooms all of William’s pending retribution.
Meghan appeared on the YouTube series The Circle with Emily Chang, where she was pressed about an earlier revelation from her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. In the series, she explained that her full name is Meghan Sussex.
The mother of two shared, “Well, when I got married, I changed my name. But it is a complicated one for people to understand because a last name is not typical in that construct.”
When pressed to find out if Sussex was really her last name, Meghan took the time to explain: “It’s not, but it’s used loosely or roughly rather. It sounds so silly to say and I get it because I’m American and then I went there and I started to understand, then you come back and as an American, you go ‘I’m so confused.’ ”
She insisted that all of this is legal and added: “It’s a dukedom – and that’s the truth of it. But at the end of the day, yes, my legal name is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, but Sussex works for us as our family name and it is the name we share with our children. But yes, since we’ve been married that’s what I’ve been called.”
Some view it as the ultimate masterstroke blocking Prince William, while others believe Markle has merely delayed the inevitable reckoning. However, one certainty remains: Prince William is determined to sever all ties with the California royals he has dubbed the “Hollywood royals,” hinting at a battle that is far from over.
Prince Harry is still hoping to reconcile with the Royal Family at some point in the future.
