According to the Daily Beast: “Another family friend of the royals described the relationship between William and the King to me this week as tense, difficult, formal and fraught, with William having a “deep-seated resentment” toward his father rooted in childhood trauma.The two men only rarely speak informally, with most of their communication mediated by their private secretaries, this source said. They do not tend to meet informally.”

According to sources who spoke to The Daily Beast this week, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, do not have much time due to their extremely busy work lives and vacations to spend time with King Charles, or perhaps the scheduling conflict is mutual, depending on one’s perspective.

However, a royal source, who spoke to The Daily Beast, explained that the family vacation in Scotland had a notably different atmosphere this year.
Sources did confirm that King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, his wife Kate Middleton, and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — were indeed in Scotland at the same time for the annual holiday.

A royal insider told The Daily Beast that, despite being at the same location, the family members intentionally avoided each other during the holiday.
The source explained that King Charles and Queen Camilla stayed at his private residence on the estate, Birkhall, located eight miles away from Balmoral Castle, while Prince William and his family remained in his private domain in Scotland.
There were no meetings, conversations, or shared dinners between the families of King Charles and Prince William during their time in Scotland.
King Charles was never seen with his grandchildren, the Wales children, throughout their time there.
The Daily Beast noted: “One former Buckingham Palace staffer who maintains good contacts with current staff told me that William and the king had spent no time at all together privately when William and Kate were in Balmoral last week. The king preferred to withdraw to the privacy of his own private home, Birkhall, eight miles from the castle on the enormous Scottish estate. The former staffer said: “Charles believes in tradition, and continuity above all. William thinks many aspects of his father’s approach are outdated, preferring a more modern interpretation of monarchy.”

The source told the publication that some royal reporters feel King Charles is deeply unhappy with Prince William and Kate Middleton distancing themselves from official duties.
