Prince Harry’s Attempt at Reconciliation
Prince William is determined to ensure King Charles III sees reason. He urges His Majesty to recognize the risks of reconciling with Prince Harry.
However, recent developments suggest this will not be easy. In family matters, emotion often overrides logic, as appears here. On Tuesday, the anticipated reconciliation occurred: King Charles granted Prince Harry a 55-minute audience at Clarence House. After coming from California, Prince Harry met his father for tea, and they spoke for the first time in 18 months.
Prince Harry came prepared for the moment. He not only wanted a health update from his father but also brought videos to share with King Charles, bringing him up to speed on his two grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet — one he has never truly met and another he has not seen in three years.
King Charles’s heart has been melted, and he is delighted to at least see his grandchildren in videos and pictures, happy to be making small talk with Prince Harry.
Prince William Goes Toe To Toe With Prince Harry
Meanwhile, Prince William is doing the hard and somewhat dirty work of trying to convince his father that he is making a terrible decision. Prince William initially attempted to address his father indirectly and through the media to explain that his decision to see Prince Harry was a terrible move. Now, he is pushing hard facts and evidence, hoping His Majesty will see the numbers and accept his reasoning.
According to The Daily Beast, Prince William wants his father to understand that this is a poor decision because Prince Harry could potentially obtain private information and leak it to the media. This concern was seemingly validated when Prince Harry told a reporter after the meeting that his father is in “great health,” despite his ongoing battle with cancer.
A Reality Check From the Public
Beyond the immediate risk, Prince William wants his father to know that public opinion polls show the majority of the British people do not agree that King Charles should ever be seen with Prince Harry or accept him back into the fold.
According to the Daily Beast:”William doesn’t think Charles should meet with Harry: William is being guided on the issue by his own grievance against Harry but also by domestic public opinion, which shows a large majority of the people do not believe Charles should grant Harry an audience, thereby effectively re-admitting him to the royal fold.”
If emotions are not enough to persuade King Charles, Prince William is hoping that this raw data will guide him toward making the right decision and avoiding being seen with or near Prince Harry in the future.
