King Charles III came ready for what was expected to be a brief, in-and-out and formal meeting with his son, Prince Harry, at Clarence House this week.
After 19 months, the father and son reunited over tea. What was predicted to be a fleeting 55-minute conversation focused solely on small talk swiftly shifted once Prince Harry presented a heartfelt gesture aimed to pull on his father’s heartstrings.
A Grandfather’s Desire
Soon after the meeting, a source leaked intriguing details to the New York Post, explaining that Prince Harry did not come to see his father in London empty-handed.
While Meghan Markle did not attend the meeting, she and Prince Harry had prepared several heartfelt family photos and videos focusing on King Charles’s grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
According to Page six: “Prince Harry was keen to update his dad, King Charles, on his two kids during their long-awaited reunion. Harry came to the private tea at his father’s London residence, Clarence House, with family photos and video on his phone.”
Moved by the family moments, King Charles responded not just as a monarch but as a grandfather. Seeing images of his grandchildren, whom he has not held in years, made an emotional impact and influenced his outlook.
A New Invitation
A royal source told the Daily Mail that seeing Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet inspired King Charles to invite Harry to bring the children to London next year. With his health uncertain, King Charles hopes to make up for lost time and build lasting memories with his grandchildren.
Thus far, it is unknown if Meghan Markle will break her self-imposed exile from the UK for the sake of her two children, but the hope remains that she might make the effort.
Prince Harry’s heartfelt gesture marks the beginning of a new chapter with King Charles.
A royal insider, who spoke to the Daily Mail, revealed that King Charles is mapping out plans to reunite with Archie and Lilibet in 2026, possibly on Archie’s birthday, which is also the anniversary of his coronation.
The person in the know stated: “The King wants to be a grandfather to his grandchildren, so that’s an important pull. He was so pleased when they came over for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, and he was able to spend some time with them.”
The source said: “It’s become clear that Harry now regrets some of his actions. He wants to reset his relationship with his family and with the people of the UK. It’s hard to see him ever coming back to live in Britain, but this may be the start of something that at least allows them to be a functioning wider family again.”
Whether Meghan Markle will attend remains uncertain, as she has not returned to the UK since the Queen‘s death in September 2022.
