King Charles III delivered a blow that will echo in the monarchy for centuries to come. His Majesty, through his authority, made his brother, Prince Andrew a commoner.
The second son of the late Queen will now go by Andrew Mountbatten Windsor after being stripped of all his titles and honors.
The decision includes Andrew being evicted from the Royal Lodge and being exiled to a comfortable private home with security on King Charles’s private Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Andrew is not the only member of his family to leave London.
The Daughters’ Departure
It has been confirmed that the former Duke of York’s two adult daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, who have been hurt by shame and pain, have left the UK for the time being.
Princess Eugenie, 35, has traveled to Paris, France, with her closest friends, seeking solitude and comfort in the city’s architecture as she tries to find peace and respite from the family turmoil.
Princess Beatrice, 37, has chosen to immerse herself in business rather than leisure. She participated in the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, focusing on her and her husband’s ventures with the hope of stability during turbulent times.
The princesses’ departure from the UK occurred after a tough and somewhat uncomfortable conversation with the heir to the throne, Prince William.
William’s Ultimatum to His Cousins
Prince William organized a not very friendly family meeting to properly handle the situation regarding his disgraced uncle, Prince Andrew. The heir to the throne ensured that King Charles and Prince Andrew were not present at the summit.
It has been confirmed that Prince William invited his cousins, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, for an uncomfortable face-to-face. He did not have much to say; however, his words were heavy and convincing.
During this conversation, the future King told Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice that they had two simple options: either to persuade their father, Prince Andrew, to see reason and accept his punishment, or face severe consequences.
Prince William stated that if his cousins did not persuade Prince Andrew to relinquish his titles, their own titles and privileges might be reviewed.
On Monday’s episode of The News Agents podcast, journalist Emily Maitlis — who interviewed Andrew for the trainwreck BBC’s Newsnight in 2019 — shared some details about the meeting between William and the princesses saying: “You guys have got to get your dad to move out of Royal Lodge; otherwise, we will start reexamining the state of your own titles.”
Maitlis continued, “There was a bit of pressure, we understand, being put on the princesses to [tell their dad], ‘This is gonna happen.’”
The sisters have very independent lives from the Royal Family and have married very wealthy individuals; however, having their father and mother become pariahs who were entangled with Jefrrey Epstein is a burden for the family.
Ailsa Anderson, a former press secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth, revealed to PEOPLE that the fallout surrounding Andrew will have a “devastating effect” on Beatrice and Eugenie and: “Even though they keep their titles, the ripple effect will have consequences for the rest of their lives.”
The Prince of Wales and his wife played a major role in Andrew’s downfall.
