The ceremony, which exists to find, support, and celebrate game-changing innovations to “repair our planet by 2030,” was held at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro. It was attended by many high-profile celebrities, political leaders, scientists, and innovators.
Prince William delivered several top prizes to the five winners. He also delivered a passionate speech where he shared this powerful sentiment, reflecting the optimism of the event: “Their work is the proof we need that progress is possible. The Earthshot Trip Derailed
The ceremony was supposed to be the highlight of Prince William’s year. He was eager to show his statesmanship, represent the monarchy after the Andrew debacle, and do some good for the planet.
However, that is not how things went down for the heir. The second, Prince William’s private jet landed in Latin America, Prince Harry summoned the world’s media with a major announcement of his own.
Prince Harry’s representative confirmed he was heading to Canada for a tour focused on veterans and Remembrance Day, with a key event directly overlapping with the Earthshot ceremony.
A Prince William staff member told The Daily Beast: “That timing was not lost on anyone. It’s not subtle.”

Insiders stressed that Prince William had worked diligently to remove the focus from the torrid month caused by Andrew’s scandal-plagued life, loss of titles, and eviction from the Royal Lodge.

According to sources, Prince Harry informed King Charles III of his plans ahead of the overseas trip. Reports suggest that, for unknown reasons, His Majesty chose not to pass this information to the heir to the throne, who was blindsided by his younger brother.
