Meghan Markle has been given yet another humiliating reason to completely rethink her drastic decision to uproot her entire life, pull her children away from their home and school, and leave her mother, Doria Ragland, her friends, and her California community behind to move back to the UK.
Before the Duchess of Sussex even sets foot on British soil, the public has made its feelings abundantly clear. They have hit her where it truly hurts: her pocketbook, her prospective jobs, her career, and her money.
Reports recently surfaced that Hollywood heavyweight Guy Ritchie had offered Meghan an olive branch by placing her in talks for a role in season three of his hit Netflix series “The Gentlemen.”
But in less than 24 hours, that job offer was abruptly PULLED after a fierce tsunami of public backlash, online hatred, and record-high dislikes made the project completely untenable for production bosses.
The Brutal Loss Of ‘The Gentlemen’ Offer
The sting of losing the TV role hits especially hard because her potential return to acting was supposed to be a major financial and creative anchor for her return across the Atlantic.
However, executives and insiders quickly realized that casting her would invite endless public hostility. Discussing the sudden withdrawal of the offer, royal author Tina Brown revealed: “The backlash in the U.K. was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the U.K.”
Echoing those exact concerns regarding the intense public reaction to her involvement, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield analyzed the initial casting news and claimed: “I still look at a casting like this and think it’s Guy Ritchie honoring Princess Diana’s legacy, doing these two a favor. Because if Meghan Markle were so hot when it comes to Hollywood, she lived an hour from there! Why didn’t she pursue any opportunities besides playing by herself?”
With the offer now rescinded, Meghan faces the harsh reality that her brand remains deeply toxic to British television networks and studio executives who refuse to risk alienating their viewers.
Mother Left Behind And A Return To California
The decision to relocate is even more agonizing because Meghan was never truly enthusiastic about moving back to the UK in the first place.
Sources told TMZ she is leaving behind her mother, Doria Ragland, who has been her primary support system in California and will not be making the permanent move overseas.
Doria’s life, business, and roots remain firmly planted in Montecito and Los Angeles. Without her mother by her side, and now stripped of her major British acting opportunity, close friends and industry insiders predict that Meghan will last less than six months living in the UK.
If she cannot work, build a viable brand, conduct business properly, and find true professional fulfillment on British soil, she will pack her bags and head right back home to California even faster than she left.
The British Public Demands An Apology She May Never Give
The underlying issue behind this crushing job loss is simple. The British public has never forgiven Meghan Markle for years of public attacks, explosive interviews, Netflix documentaries, and relentless criticism directed at the Royal Family and the century-old institution of the monarchy.
Before she can expect television roles, red carpet invitations, or warm public welcomes, the nation is waiting for a genuine, public apology.
Yet, there is widespread doubt that Meghan will ever offer one because she has revealed in numerous interviews that she was hurt, bruised, and felt suicidal while in the UK because of the manner she was treated.
Even if she did go through with the idea of issuing a carefully written apology, there is no guarantee the British people would accept it.
Addressing the massive uphill battle Meghan faces in trying to win back a hostile public, TV presenter Peter Cardwell observed: “Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were the subject of intense reports… You have this multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix, and it takes you six years to secure something substantial?”
Analyzing the public’s reluctance to embrace her return, an industry source added: “After intense backlash in the U.K., it became untenable to go forward.”
With her primary income sources drying up and the British public closing its doors to her media career before she even arrives, Meghan’s move back to the UK is shaping up to be one of the most humiliating setbacks of her post-royal life.
