Scott Lisinicchia, 53, has been identified as the driver of a limo that killed 20 people in Schoharie, New York on Saturday.
The limo was carrying 18 people when it hit an empty SUV near a country store. Two pedestrians also died as a result of the fatal Upstate NY fatal crash.
The limo was heading to a birthday party when the tragic incident occurred. The deceased driver, who was identified by a man claiming to be his twin’s brother, was operating a 2001 Ford Excursion on behalf of Prestige Limousine, a small company owned by Shahed Hussain.
The 62-year-old Pakistan native has worked as an undercover FBI informant in the past. It is not clear if Hussain is under criminal investigation at this point.
According to statements from officials, he could be investigated. Police have yet to confirm the driver’s identity. However, a lot of information was put out about his past.
Lisinicchia was reportedly not licensed to be driving the vehicle, which also failed a safety inspection last month.
Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo revealed: “The driver of the vehicle, the quote-unquote limousine, did not have the appropriate license to be operating that vehicle. Second, that vehicle was inspected by the New York State Department of Transportation last month and failed inspection and was not supposed to be on the road.”
The Democratic politician added: “The driver of the vehicle, the quote-unquote limousine, did not have the appropriate license to be operating that vehicle. Second, that vehicle was inspected by the New York State Department of Transportation last month and failed inspection and was not supposed to be on the road.”
In the past eight years, Lisinicchia was busted twice on drug charges. He was charged for unlawful possession of marijuana.
The Limo crash claimed the lives of four sisters — Abigail Jackson, Mary Dyson, Allison King, and Amy Steenburg.
Their aunt, Barbara Douglas, said: “One just got married, and that’s what this was — her new husband was giving her a surprise birthday party.”
This is the deadliest transportation accident in the country since 2009.
