Shawn Mendes’ girlfriend was trying to share a photo celebrating the second anniversary of her hit “Havana,” but the responses she got were not quite what she was expecting.

And while Cabello does admit that she initially became very insecure by the messages, she then started going over the situation in her head and realized that people were mean for no good reason, and she should not have anything to worry about.

The singer also pointed out that she was constantly thinking of her younger fans and her sister, Sofia Cabello, when choosing how to respond to situations like these, realizing the huge impact social media has on their lives today.

The 22-year-old music star said she does not want young kids to have the wrong impression of their favorite performers and celebrities.

The former Fifth Harmony member said: “I haven’t gone on social media AT ALL with the conscious intention of avoiding things that hurt my feelings. My eyes accidentally ran over a headline of people’ body shaming me.’”

She continued with: “I felt super insecure initially, just IMAGING what these pictures must look like, oh no! My cellulite! oh no! I didn’t suck in my stomach! But then I was like… of course there are bad pictures, of course, there are bad angles, my body’s not made of f–king rock, or all muscle, for that matter.”

She said this about her young fans and Sofia: “They are growing up on social media, and are constantly seeing photoshopped, edited pictures and thinking that’s reality, and everyone’s eyes get used to seeing airbrushed bodies and airbrushed skin, and suddenly they think THAT’S the norm. ?!!! It isn’t. It’s fake. AND FAKE IS BECOMING THE NEW REAL.”

She concluded by: “Cellulite is normal, and fat is normal. It’s beautiful and natural. I won’t buy into the bulls–t today!!!! Not today, satan. and I hope you don’t either.”

Judging by the way Cabello has responded to the body shamers, it is clear that she is trying to set the right example and is doing her best to avoid painting herself as the victim.

She is one of the celebrities with the most determined attitude in this regard right now, and her fans say that is an important thing to have in the world of entertainment.

On the personal side, things have been going well for Cabello and Mendes. For his birthday, she wrote the following on Instagram: “Happy birthday to this magic human, I love you!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️”

Moreover, they even shared a long kiss at his huge birthday party and she has also met his parents in Brooklyn, the day after he turned 21.

Some fans remain skeptical and think the relationship could still be a big publicity stunt. According to the naysayers, they look more like real friends and fake lovers.
