Mac P Dawg, a promising 24-year-old West Coast rapper, who grew up in West Hollywood, was shot and killed in Los Angeles on Monday night. The Shoreline Mafia associate’s girlfriend was also shot in the incident that supposedly took place at a laundromat in Koreatown, and she is reportedly in critical condition.
Dawg first made some noise musically in 2017, thanks to his collaboration with Fenix Flexin, “Half N Half.” The track opened many doors for Dawg, and he even started touring with Shoreline Mafia.
The talent had a unique style that painted a vivid image of life in the streets of Los Angeles. Dawg’s single, “Let Me Know,” featuring Ohgeesy showed the potential that many saw on his earlier tracks.
“Breakdown,” released in 2019, had a raw feel to it that could not be denied. Dawg wanted to leave the street lifestyle behind and used his music to save him from his past and live a good life with his loved ones.
After the news of Dawg’s death found its way to social media, many rushed to the comment section to pay homage to the late rapper.
One comment read: “Rip !!!!!!!!!! These streets no joke playing with fire. You just might get burn.” A second observer added: “I miss you, bro !! I fkn love you dawg ? say this just a nightmare gon wake up anytime.”
A third person chimed in: “I can’t do this anymore. We losing too many people over senseless bullshit the people with so much potential be dying too quick REST IN PEACE MAC SHIT CRAZY ?.”
A fourth supporter added: “RIP to a true king you were taken away too soon, you had your whole life ahead of you. ?.”
Last year, Dawg was asked to explain what music brought to him, and he told The Hype Magazine: “I get to speak and express myself about my day to day situations. I always wanted a song to be played in a strip club, so I made that party/ass shaking song “Let Me Know” with my bro Ohgeesy.”
He continued with: “Outside of music I’m really just another hustler tryna support his family. I gotta do whatever to help my peoples and be the man of the house, so it’s kinda hard to balance making money and making music. But it’s getting easier cause I got support from everybody.”
Ohgeesy has said on Twitter he loves and misses his friend. Dawg’s passing comes one year after the death of Nipsey Hussle, he was shot in front of his Marathon store in Los Angeles.
