After seven years together and being engaged, power couple Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis have split despite being “put together” by the universe.
The actors started dating in 2011 and shared their engagement news in 2012. The romance led to two children — Otis, 6, and Daisy, 4.
However, earlier this year, the duo realized that things were not going well, and they opted to go their separate ways.
A source close to Wilde and Sudeikis spoke to PEOPLE Magazine, confirming that they called off their engagement in early 2020 but did not say what pushed the pair to end the relationship.
The insider explained to the publication: “The split happened at the beginning of the year. It’s been amicable, and they’ve transitioned into a great co-parenting routine. The children are the priority and the heart of the family’s relationship.”
In a past interview, Sudeikis told Stephen Colbert that he and Wilde “hit it off” during a Saturday Night Live party, but he did not make any moves because he was told that she was dating.
He confessed at that time: “I actually came off looking a little cooler than I really am because I had heard through the grapevine, through mutual friends who weren’t exactly her best girlfriends, who would report back, ‘Oh, you know, I think she’s dating someone. So I didn’t make any moves. I was just very, very busy with other things.”
Sudeikis went on to say the universe did its magic, and everything fell into place. He shared: “And next thing you know, I stopped being busy, she stopped dating someone, and then it was off to the races. We sort of reintroduced ourselves. The universe had more in store for us in the fall.”
Wilde also did a few interviews where she spoke about finding love after her divorce from first husband Tao Ruspoli.
Talking to Marie Claire, she revealed: “I was just learning to be by myself. I’d been divorced for nine months. We were both seeing people but were single. He seemed to really see me, see through the b——t.”
When asked why she was not yet married after having two children, Wilde made this revelation: “We are seriously connected. Before you have a child, marriage is the ultimate commitment and promise to one another, and then once you have a child, it’s like, ‘Oh, we’re committed and promised already.'”
The former pair used to be very discreet, so it is unlikely that more information will surface about the reasons behind the split.
