Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are heading for peace or war with the royal family, depending on who you ask.
Ahead of Christmas this year, Prince William and Prince Harry are believed to have exchanged gifts with each other, and things are finally working to the advantage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
According to some royal experts, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are setting themselves up for a battle with Queen Elizabeth II because of their latest move.
It has been revealed that the power couple has plans to woo the senior members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth, to convince them to extend their royal exit deal with Buckingham Palace by 12 months.
The “Megxit” deal is set to expire on March 31, 2021. Journalist Harry Mount said that the royal rebels are running straight towards a wall with Her Majesty.
The royal expert revealed: “The most successful members of the Royal Family are those who — like the Gloucesters, the Wessexes, and Princess Alexandra’s Kent brothers — are happy to offer Her Majesty steady background support. Those who set themselves up as rivals, like the Sussexes, are disasters.”
A source close to the Sussexes explained how they would approach the matter: “Although they will do some of it by Zoom, Harry wants to meet face to face to tie it all up. Things seem to have calmed down. Harry has been in contact with the Queen more often than you would think. But certain things you need to be there in person to sort. They will need a few weeks. That could be done after April, depending on COVID.”
Harry and Meghan have already started sweetening the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince William and Kate Middleton, and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — have received gifts from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, all the way from California where they have been living for most of this year.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and their 1-year old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, have also received gifts from the Cambridge family. The claims came from royal expert Andrew Morton, who has written several biographies about the royal family.
However, following the tensions of the last couple of years between the two royal brothers, many believe that this is just the beginning of a long process to heal the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry.
Roya Nikkah, who currently is the royal correspondent for The Sunday Times, believes that it will take more time before the difficulties in the royal family and tensions between the brothers are repaired.
She claims their relationship has become “badly damaged” over recent years, and while the exchanging of gifts is a good sign, it does not signal that things have completely blown over.
Nikkah also claims that both the Cambridges and Sussexes now want to appear as though their relationship is amicable.
Early 2021, the Queen will review the roles of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — one year on from leaving their roles within the royal family.
It is unknown yet whether their HRH titles will be stripped or handed back by the couple themselves. Currently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have an agreement with the Queen whereby they can continue using their HRH titles as long as they are kept separate from their work.
