Kylie Jenner has responded after fans criticized her for not donating enough money to cover the costs of makeup artist Samuel Rauda‘s medical bills following a serious car accident last weekend.
Posting to her Instagram Stories to clarify the “false narrative,” 23-year-old future billionaire and influencer Kylie Jenner explained that she had donated $5,000 to the GoFundMe campaign for Samuel Rauda but that he was not her personal makeup artist.
In the lengthy post, Kylie Jenner said she first heard about Rauda’s accident from her current makeup artist, Ariel Tejada, who had shared the family’s GoFundMe page, which had an original goal of raising $10,000.
Kylie — who has a net worth of more than $900 million and was listed as the top-earning celebrity last year — said she saw the fundraiser had reached $6,000 when she initially visited the page, prompting her to donate $5,000 to take the family over their target.
The young entrepreneur shared a post on Instagram Live asking her 222 million Instagram followers to “say a prayer for Sam” after he was involved in a car accident over the weekend. She also encouraged them to “swipe up” and donate to the fundraiser.
“May God watch over you and protect you @makeupbysamuel,” Jenner wrote in the brief note that was accompanied by a black-and-white photo of Rauda. “Everyone, take a moment to say a prayer for Sam, who got into an accident this past weekend. And swipe up to visit his families go fund me.”
By Tuesday, the goal had been amended to $120,000, of which more than $100,000 had been raised.
Kylie Jenner described Samuel Rauda as “the sweetest” and said she had “worked with him” a few years ago, but added that they do not have a personal relationship anymore and he is not her personal makeup artist.
Jenner took to Instagram on Monday to defend herself against those slamming her for being selfish and inconsiderate with her massive hard-earned wealth.
The reality TV star turned mogul penned this message for her critics: “I saw my current makeup artist and friend Ariel post about Sam’s accident and his family’s gofundme… it compelled me to visit his gofundme, which was set at 10K. I thought I’d post on my stories to gain more awareness if anyone also felt compelled to share or donate. I don’t know how all of this got so twisted, but his family has reached out through Ariel and are very appreciative…”
Some fans say Jenner is a role model because she had compassion and gave a large sum of money, and her social media plea also caused the donations to skyrocket.
A backer wrote this comment: “Kylie is right. Someone who knows Kylie knows her heart. ????”
This social media user claimed: “I knew in my heart that Kylie is a good person.?” Another kind message read: “So much love and respect for kylie ❤️ What a wonderful role model.”
On the GoFundMe page, his family has said that the funds raised will cover his medical expenses as well as the long road to recovery ahead of him.
According to his friends, Rauda has already undergone major surgery following the accident.
His family has said that all donations of any amount are “greatly appreciated.”
