Priyanka Chopra has shared a “throwback Thursday” photo to Instagram, giving followers another glimpse into her life as a teen as she recently released her autobiography, Unfinished.
She published her memoir last month, speaking candidly about the issues she has faced during her career due to her appearance, particularly her nose surgery.
The 38-year-old model and entertainer looks stunning in the photo, shared on Thursday, wearing a white bikini and matching pants as she smiled and posed with her hands on her hips almost two decades ago.
It is the latest of several throwback photos Priyanka Chopra has shared over recent months as she prepared to launch her new book in February.
She has opened up about her problems with surgery on her nose — the result of a procedure that went wrong after a growth in her nasal cavity was discovered during her teen years.
The surgeon accidentally removed part of her nose bridge, causing it to collapse, Chopra explains in her book.
The 2000 Miss World winner had already begun her career in acting in her home country of India, where she was dropped from two movies following her surgery.
She later had corrective surgeries to fix her nose but was left looking in the mirror and feeling surprised by how different she looked and started to feel unsure about her future.
Chopra — who has been married to Jonas Brothers singer Nick Jonas since 2018 — said that she felt “unseen” and undervalued following her experience.
However, now, she has come to accept the way she looks and be “content.” Chopra says that she owes nobody an “explanation” despite the fact that she is an entertainer and in the public eye.
She wrote: “Fortunately, a polypectomy sounded like a pretty routine procedure. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. The surgeon accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose, and the bridge collapsed. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me.”
She went on to say: “All the talk of body parts and skin tone collectively made me feel devalued and unseen and uncertain about my future. Having experienced the aftermath of a supposedly simple polyp removal, I knew I wasn’t willing to follow the course he’d laid out for me, even if he, as the highly successful expert, was right.”
Chopra is now a brand internationally, and her brand still has room to grow after a pretty decent 2020 career-wise.
