Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have split after a four-year relationship, including a two-year engagement. Some insiders were quick to link the breakup to Southern Charm star Madison LeCroy and her so-called friendship with the baseball legend.
However, a few other sources say that there is more to the story and the LeCroy scandal was nothing more than a distraction brought up by the media.
The two camps do agree on one thing, the cheating rumors involving the stunning blonde reality TV star were a trigger for the former couple. They forced them to look at some hard truths that they were able to brush under the rug,
Moreover, the coronavirus pandemic also did not help J-Lo and A-Rod because it gave them time to reevaluate a lot of things in their lives.
LeCroy, 30, was asked for a reaction after the breakup news, and she told Page Six: “I wish them the best.”
Weeks after slamming rumors that they were no longer together, the two stars put out a statement on Thursday via TODAY that read: “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects.”
It continued: “We wish the best for each other, and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
The 45-year-old former Yankees player shared an emotional video, accompanied by Coldplay‘s ballad “Fix You” on social media that covered their relationship that started in 2017.
The Instagram story was posted hours before the official announcement, and many saw it as a hint that things were headed in the wrong direction for the pair.
To some, the retired athlete might have been more at fault in the breakup because of cheating allegations that were brought up by Page Six last month.
An insider said at the time: “The Madison LeCroy scandal was the reason they finally broke up. There were already problems, but Jennifer was really embarrassed by it.”
Lopez, 51, and Rodriguez tried to rekindle the romance with some PDA in the Dominican Republic in recent weeks, but it was already too late to salvage the relationship.
For the time being, the “I’m Real” artist is keeping the $1.8 million diamond engagement ring in a safe place. It was missing from Lopez’s recent photos.
Rodriguez is not fighting for the pricey jewelry because he is still hoping that he can win Lopez’s heart again.
A source told E! News: “He is respecting her wishes right now but has high hopes they will get back together. He’s doing anything in his power to make J.Lo happy.”
However, the mother of two wants to move forward and is not interested in reconciling right now. A second insider stated: “Lopez has not been happy for a while now and is feeling at peace.”
A third source added: “Once her trust is broken, there’s no turning around. She feels good about her decision because she knows ARod will still be in her life, just in a different capacity.”
Lopez is currently filming Shotgun Wedding in the Dominican Republic with Josh Duhamel who replaced Armie Hammer after the abuse allegations surfaced.
