Throughout her divorce from Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie has mainly spoken about the complex and embarrassing situation via her lawyers or representative.
However, recently, she decided to break her silence and opted to destroy Brad Pitt while at it. The former power couple has been battling it out in court since late 2016 over money, custody of their children, and their public reputation.
Many of the very private battles being fought between Angelina Jolie and her former spouse leaked to the media — including the children’s therapy sessions.
Reports about violence also surfaced, stating that Jolie had accused Pitt of domestic abuse. Jolie’s attorney had attempted to have the former couple’s six children testify in court to back the claims.
A judge denied the request to have the couple’s five minor children — Pax Thien, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline, 13, testify.
However, it was alleged that Maddox Chivan, 20, was allowed to paint what was described as a negative portrait of his deteriorating relationship with his father.
In a sit-down with The Guardian, Jolie had a lot to say about her failed marriage to Pitt, and not much about it is positive.
The 46-year-old actor and human rights activist was asked about the reports of abuse, and the journalist said this is how she responded: “Jolie confirmed by nodding that she was alluding to her divorce and the allegations of domestic abuse she made against Pitt. She said she can’t speak about” it because of her own legal situation.”
She went on to explain that she feared for her children while she was married to Pitt. “Yes,(I feared) for my family. My whole family.”
It was revealed that Jolie initially filed for divorce after Pitt had a brutal altercation with their then-teen son, Maddox, while on a private plane.
For the first time, Jolie decided to open up about the plane incident: “It doesn’t start with the violation [the plane incident]. It’s so much more complicated than that. It took a lot for me to be in a position where I felt I had to separate from the father of my children. I mean, in some ways, it’s been the last decade. There’s a lot I can’t say.”
Jolie explained that Maddox was not permitted to testify in court during her custody case. The humanitarian said: “He was denied a voice in court.”
She went on to say: “I’m not the kind of person who makes decisions like the decisions I had to make lightly. It took a lot for me to be in a position where I felt I had to separate from the father of my children.”
She concluded by: “How am I? I’m realising that sometimes you can survive things but not know how to feel and live in the same way. So it’s more about being open. I’m really trying to be open as a human being again.”
Brad Pitt issued a response where he slammed Angelina Jolie’s interview.
He said: “You want to make sure there is support for the children in your life. It’s hard to see how continuing down this path benefits anybody.”
So far, the actor has not faced a real backlash after the interview.
