It appears that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in March, was not the only reason why the couple’s relationship with the rest of the British royal family deteriorated.
It was recently reported that the former Suits actress caused great distress for Prince Charles‘s wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, one year earlier with her rude actions on social media.
Reports suggest that the Duchess of Sussex did not follow royal protocol as she stole the limelight from the Duchess of Cornwall and her speech on domestic abuse.
Even though Meghan Markle was repeatedly asked by palace aides not to do anything which could take away the attention from Camilla Parker Bowles’s momentous event, she ignored the request.
The Duchess of Sussex insisted that news of her tour of the National Theatre should be made public at the same time when the Duchess of Cornwall was giving her speech.
According to some sources, the Duchess of Cornwall was “very upset” by Meghan’s actions because her campaign was very important to her, as her decision “to highlight the scourge of domestic violence at the 10th anniversary of Women of the World was a carefully thought-out plan.”
An insider claimed that even though it was known around the palace that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had scheduled public engagements at the time, everyone agreed that Camilla Parker Bowles’s remarks should have the highest priority.
However, the Duchess of Sussex allegedly “refused to listen” to the advice of palace aides and forwarded two photographs of her visit to the theatre to the London Evening Standard to be published on the same day of Parker Bowles’s event.
A source revealed via The Mirror: “Camilla’s work is very important to her, and her decision to highlight the scourge of domestic violence at the 10th anniversary of Women of the World was a carefully thought-out plan.”
The royal insider also stated: “Over the last four years, she has worked tirelessly, mostly behind the scenes but to great effect, to use her platform and personal experiences to highlight the issue and help sufferers. Of course, it was known Harry and Meghan would be doing engagements this week, some privately, but everyone was in agreement that Camilla’s speech should take precedence. Unfortunately some people had other ideas.”
The power couple is trying to find a balance between peace with the rest of the royal family and the need to succeed as entrepreneurs.
