Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, found themselves in a situation where they could not win, forcing them to make the hard decision to leave the royal family.
According to the author of Meghan and the Unmasking of the Monarchy: A Hollywood Princess, it was a blessing in disguise for both Prince William and Prince Charles, who already had plans to quietly push them out because they want a slimmed-down monarchy when Queen Elizabeth II is no longer in power.
These pieces of information have been revealed in a new interview as Andrew Morton promotes the updated version of his best-selling book about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
The famous royal author revealed that while they might not be aware of it, the former American actress and her spouse did the future kings a great service by stepping down from their royal duties.
In January of 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry rattled the world with the announcement that they were stepping back from their roles as senior working members of the royal family.
Along with their young son, Archie, Prince Harry and the philanthropist relocated to California. In June of 2021, the couple welcomed a new addition to their family.
Meghan Markle gave birth to Lilibet Diana, a baby girl named after Queen Elizabeth. The writer revealed that the couple’s big move to the United States benefits Prince William.
The royal biographer explained: “I think the irony is that Prince Charles and Prince William saw themselves as being the leaders of the slimmed-down monarchy. In a way, Harry and Meghan have done them a favor by jumping ship, rather than being asked to walk the gangplank.”
The Sussexes’ roles in the monarchy would gradually shrink as Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s children — George, Charlotte, and Louis — grew older and started taking part in royal duties and ceremonies.
According to the author, Prince Harry and his wife sold a false narrative when they claimed that their decision to exit the royal family was spontaneous.
He shared: “I think that the narrative that they’d like to project is that they arrived in Los Angeles with a couple of suitcases and a cuddly toy and that was it. I think the reality is that they’ve been planning this move to Hollywood for some time, not necessarily where they were going to live.”
The biographer believes that Prince Harry’s daughter will land the title of the first American Princess.
He explained his theory: “Lilibet is going to be the first-ever American princess. I think America will embrace her as an American princess.”
In the newly published chapters, the author also made this revelation: “He’s trying to protect Meghan in the way that he couldn’t protect Diana, and I think that’s very deeply embedded in his psychology.”
