Some royal experts say that they have exceeded expectations. According to royal expert Nicola Alpe, however, it was always believed that Prince Harry and his educated and charismatic wife were the ones with the star power.
The pair was expected to rule over the kingdom symbolically by captivating the media and the British people with their public appearances, speeches, and charity works.
However, by becoming California residents, the independent royals made it possible for Kate Middleton and her husband to become the leading players in the game.
The royal columnist explained that the future Queen and King of England have learned in the past two years to operate on another level.
They have become experts at pushing their brands with well-timed photos, their public display of affection, the royal duties they invest in, and their speeches.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were forced into the spotlight sooner than expected for another reason.
Due to the pandemic and Queen Elizabeth‘s advanced age and recent health issues, Prince William and his spouse took on unprecedented roles as the Queen was being shielded from the virus.
Columnist Nicola Alpe wrote: “For a while, it looked as if Harry and Megan would be the power couple of the Royal Family, but even if they were still there, Wills and Kate are now operating entirely on another level.”
She also added: “Whether it’s playing the paps at their own game by releasing snaps of the next generation of heirs, to changing the way we think and talk about early childhood education and mental health, to absolutely bringing it in style and appropriate affection stakes during public appearances, Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge are the Royal Family’s true power players.”
Royal author Katie Nicholl weighed in by saying that the pair has indeed grown more confident and has become more popular by saying: “Kate, in particular, has really grown in popularity. We’ve seen her emerge as a royal in her own right in the past year. William seems more and more like a King-in-waiting to me. He is happier and more confident about the future with Kate by his side and, I think, more serious these days – that’s not a negative, more an observation. He knows the preparation is underway for a new reign – he wants to live up to expectations and, I think, probably surpass them.”
