It is the gift that Queen Elizabeth II wishes she could take back. For Prince William‘s 32nd birthday, Queen Elizabeth said that money was no object and went all in for her grandson.
Her Majesty gave the heir to the throne and his wife, Kate Middleton, a pricey helicopter.
Prince William received a 2008 Agusta A109S Grand helicopter sold for $13.6 million, according to Vanity Fair.
Queen Elizabeth decided to splurge on Prince William and his spouse because she wanted them to freely fly to and from their two homes and official engagements all around the country.
The luxury helicopter that can hold one pilot and seven passengers was supposed to ferry royal staff members around.
However, now, Queen Elizabeth regrets the gift because she has suddenly realized the dangers of having two heirs to the throne frequently travel via helicopter.
Note that Prince William and his family also travel via privately hired helicopters.
Several media outlets have revealed that Her Majesty is losing sleep over the matter. Although the Duke of Cambridge is a veteran helicopter pilot who served in the Royal Air Force, the Queen fears that tragedy could strike and cause chaos for the monarchy.
Such an event would change the line of succession and make Prince Harry, King, and Meghan Markle, Queen of England.
Royal experts say Queen Elizabeth is right to ponder on the matter because Prince Harry, who has laid bare his grievances against the royal family, would return from California and dismantle the institution.
Royal commentator Daniela Elser in The New Zealand Herald said Prince Harry would “dismantle” the institution and explained why: “He has blamed for so many of his problems and so much of his unhappiness. Given Harry and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex‘s loud and pique-fuelled bombardment of the palace this year, it would be understandable if even the remotest possibility of the Monarchy ending up in their hands was something keeping his Gan Gan awake at night.”
The Queen, who regrets giving the dangerous and inappropriate gift to Prince William, has scolded him.
She has demanded that he stop flying the helicopter because she fears for the family’s safety.
After getting scolded by his grandmother, the Duke of Cambridge will most likely do as he is told, according to royal commentator Russell Myers.
Speaking to ITV’s This Morning, he said: “There’s an old age rule that members of the Royal Family don’t travel together, and the reason is because if disaster did strike, you would potentially have the line of succession absolutely obliterated. The Queen has apparently had a quiet heard in William’s ear and said, ‘it’s about time to take your hand of the controls, split the family up when you are traveling whether it’s up to Norfolk or abroad.’
He went on to reveal the constitutional nightmare it would create because Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had relocated to California.
He stated: “The reason is if with the Cambridge, unfortunately, tragedy did happen, we would see Prince Harry having to come back and take the line of succession. Obviously, that would be quite a hot potato with the Sussexes leaving the Royal Family and setting up home in America.” He’ll do what his granny asks him, I’m sure.”
Prince William is very reportedly very attentive to his grandmother’s wishes.
