The duo drifted apart because Prince Harry and his brother butted heads over his romance with Meghan Markle.
The conflict intensified because of a series of interviews and accusations made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The pal revealed that two years after Prince Harry stepped down from his royal duties, the relationship remains “extremely strained.”
Friends of the brothers saw first hands how deep the searing animosity runs. The pair was forced to come together for a somber moment during their grandfather’s funeral.
The British princes were supposed to put a united front and support each other as they said goodbye to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
However, that is not what happened; according to multiple friends of the royal brothers, who spoke to royal author Robert Lacey, the brothers had a massive fight in public.
The royal historian explained that Prince Harry and Prince William moved away from the cameras where a very tense interaction took place.
Writing in the Daily Mail, the royal commentator explained: “Some inching towards reconciliation seemed in progress, their watching friends dared to dream — as did the whole world. But those hopes were dashed within minutes of the siblings getting inside the castle and beyond camera vision. They started quarreling again.”
A long-time friend of the brothers, who appeared hopeless, shared some embarrassing details about the heated exchange: “There they were, at each other’s throats as fiercely as ever,’ relates one long-time friend with a tired and helpless shrug. The rage and anger between those two have grown so incredibly deep. Too many harsh and wounding things have been said.”
The royal author added this: “The conflict between Diana‘s two bitterly divided sons does not seem likely to end any time soon.”
Months have gone by since the brothers clashed in a public setting, and the royal source who spoke to PEOPLE revealed no progress had been made.
Kate Middleton’s pal said that Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and his spouse are stressed out about the fallouts with the Sussexes and added: “Everything with Harry and Meghan has been hugely stressful, but if anything, it’s pulled [her and William] closer together. She was upset about it because [William] was so upset. Seeing her husband so distraught was tough.”
It is believed that friends of the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry are still hopeful that they will resolve their differences and heal.
