Once more, there are chatters that Queen Elizabeth II might abdicate the throne — and Prince Charles is the one who sparked the conversation on the matter during a recent party.
The Sovereign is 96 years old and suffers from some minor health issues. She battled COVID-19 and has since been hit with lingering mobility problems.
During her Platinum Jubilee, she was forced to skip multiple events. But, it had appeared that she was recovering nicely and made a few surprise appearances.
However, recently, Prince Charles hinted that he is going to make a transition. The Duke seemed to reveal that he might be stepping down from his most crucial role as he gets ready to take the throne from Queen Elizabeth.
During a private garden party, the Prince of Wales was joined by a group of high-profile guests this month.
The event was put together for his 70th anniversary as the head of the Duchy of Cornwall.
Prince Charles delivered an emotional speech where he revealed that a major royal shake-up is planned.
He said: “I have paid innumerable visits to Duchy farms which I have seen evolve over the generation.”
The title of Duke of Cornwall will be turned over to Prince William because it is traditionally held by the eldest son of the reigning British monarch.
He continued: “Having started with the grandfathers 53 years ago, I am now coming towards the end of my time with the grandsons and granddaughters.”
An overwhelmed Prince Charles added: “I cannot help but feel the most overwhelming gratitude for all those who have gone before us and whose careful and devoted stewardship has bequeathed to us the Duchy which it has been my privilege to serve for these seventy years.”
He concluded by saying that he hoped that he had properly prepared the terrain for Prince William.
He said: “Now, as I find myself in the somewhat unnerving position of being the longest serving Duke since 1337, I can only hope that the changes I have made mean it will be in even better shape for those who come after me.”
The world got a glimpse of Prince Charles as king when he replaced Her Majesty at the opening of parliament.
Due to health issues, the Queen was forced to withdraw and skipped her constitutional duty for the first time in almost 60 years.
Elizabeth II, who is wrapping up her reign, surprised the world by using the opening of the Platinum Jubilee to announce that she wants Camilla Parker Bowles to get the title of Queen when Prince Charles ascends the throne.
She revealed her royal seal of approval with this statement: “When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
The British monarchy is really evolving.
