The royal family knew that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had plans to have a hectic fall/winter of 2022, but no one could have predicted that the drama would have started so early.
Less than a week ago, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, launched her new podcast, Archetypes, where she used and raised her voice while talking about her painful experiences as a new mother and working member of the royal family.
On Monday, Meghan Markle appeared in a poignant article in The Cut, where she painted a clearer picture of the toxic dynamic she and Prince Harry were confronted with while in England. Meghan Markle said she was happy to leave Britain.
According to the article: “Harry and Meghan suggested to ‘The Firm’ that they should be allowed to work on behalf of the Monarchy but make their own money, with the Duchess saying: ‘Then maybe all the noise would stop.”
The piece says: “They also thought it best to leave the U.K. (and the U.K. press) to do it. They were willing to go to basically any commonwealth, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, anywhere. Anything to just … because just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy. So we go, ‘Okay, fine, let’s get out of here. Happy to,” she says, putting her hands up in mock defeat.”
Prince Harry, who also took part in the interview, took a swipe at his family by saying: “Most people that I know and many of my family, they aren’t able to work and live together.”
Speaking of the interview, which took place at the couple’s California mansion, The Cut‘s interviewer, Allison Davis, said that Prince Harry enunciated the word family “with a vocal eye roll.”
All of these revelations must undoubtedly be comforting to Prince William, who decided early on to split from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for the sake of the Monarchy.
It was recently confirmed that The Duke of Cambridge consciously put the survival and the future of the British Monarchy above his relationship with his younger brother, Prince Harry.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, the former private secretary to Prince William and Prince Harry, appeared in Channel 4 docuseries, The Real Windsors: A Very Modern Prince? where he explained why the heir made the move that seemed cold and cruel to some.
According to The Sun: “The Duke of Cambridge will always put the interests of the Monarchy before his relationship with his brother Prince Harry, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton told a Channel 4 documentary. Mr. Lowther-Pinkerton explains: “He has made a conscious decision that duty comes first.”
Lowther-Pinkerton also revealed on the program: “Prince William is very analytical and asks all the questions. And makes sure that he’s clear about what you’re asking him to do. His sort of moral compass is set absolutely rigidly due north. He has the clearest understanding of almost anybody I know of what is right and what is wrong, and he won’t waiver from it, even if it means he’s going to take a hit. There are many examples of when I worked for him where it would have been very easy to take one route. But it wouldn’t have been the honorable or the right thing to do, so he took the more difficult route.”
Lowther-Pinkerton believes the Duke of Cambridge’s role model is his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and the Monarchy will be in safe hands when he takes over.
He said: “He’s inevitably drawn a lot from the example that she’s given over the years. He’s got some great role models there. In a way, he’s lucky because he sits at the bottom of the pile in terms of the generational way of looking at it. And he can sort of look at those generations and draw on them. The Monarchy has always changed. It’s always evolved — each generation will do things slightly. Differently, there’ll be lots of common themes. That’s why it’s an evolution, not a revolution.”
Katie Nicholl, Vanity Fair royal correspondent, added: “I think William had to park being a loving brother who was absolutely his brother’s number one fan to put on a different hat. It was putting the future of the firm and the best interests of the Monarchy before himself and before his brother and before their relationship.”
Many deemed the decision was ruthless at the time, but some backers of Prince William say he made the right move to protect the institution.
Others claimed that Prince William had been vindicated because of Prince Harry and Markle’s truth bombs in the Cut interview.
Royal expert Dan Wootton had this to say about Markle’s latest interview: “Because it’s now abundantly clear to anyone that Meghan Markle appears to have no grip on reality and is on a mission to take down the Royal Family, no matter the cost. The issue is that most of her carefully designed Monarchy and media-damaging grenades are usually questionable.”
The Sussexes are playing by their own rules.
