The death of Queen Elizabeth opened the door for a real truce in the British royal family. Her Majesty‘s funeral proved that it is still possible for all of the royals to find common ground.
By all accounts, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are determined to make peace with King Charles III and Prince William.
While this is a laudable quest, it will come at a price. However, it is not clear that the renegade royals are ready to bear the cost. Some observers say that the two Californians want to have their cake and eat it, too.
At some point, they will have to make a choice. It is clear the path ahead is draconian for them. They are caught between the Hollywood lights (tell-all book, podcast, and deals with Netflix) and the allure of royal life.
It is evident that they do not want to pick. In their ideal world, they would be able to blast all that is wrong with the British Monarchy on Monday while in the United States and be invited to Buckingham Palace on Friday for some pageantry.
However, in the real world, King Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, to some extent, are not giving an inch and want some concrete gestures for the healing process to move forward.
If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can make a real sacrifice, there can be a distinct role for them in the new era under King Charles’s rule.
Royal expert and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown is pushing for the power couple to take the first step and find a way to build on unity.
Brown told Lorraine: “This is an incredible moment to be used. The country loved that feeling of unity, and seeing the brothers back together, it was a beautiful sight. But unless he gives up his book and the tell-all documentaries and interviews, then there can be no trust. I think if he does that, there can be a way.”
She continued: “The Royal Family needs him, and there’s a lot of work to be done. Kate doesn’t want to be traveling the world; she’s the mother of three children. They have to somehow divvy this stuff up, and Harry has a big role to play if he wants to. And if Meghan wants to, because of course she hated every bit of it.”
The royal commentator also stated: “The question is whether they’ve each got the give to do it because, as we know, family rancor can go very deep. If Harry doesn’t want to bin the book, then I can’t see a way forward.”
Brown concluded by saying that more good can be done within the parameters of the Monarchy. She explained that the late Princess Diana understood this important fact.
The media personality concluded: “Diana always knew that it was being inside that gave her the power. When she shook hands with the Aids patient, she did that as Princess of Wales, and it was bringing the luster of the Monarchy to the moment that made that gesture go around the world.”
It seems that Prince and his wife will have a lot of thinking to do about their future roles in public life. Will they sacrifice their big Hollywood dream for the Monarchy?
