There is a glimmer of hope for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, about the dispute over the titles of their young children, Archie and Lilibet Diana.
When Charles was proclaimed King of England, his grandchildren were supposed to have their titles changed automatically.
While Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, received the updated titles, it was not the case for Prince Harry and Markle’s children, Archie and Lilibet Diana.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had multiple unfruitful conversations with King Charles after the death of Queen Elizabeth II about updating his grandchildren’s titles.
According to a royal expert with ties to The Palace, King Charles will eventually offer the titles, but they will be attached to a list of demands.
Author and commentator Katie Nicholl said that she believes King Charles will lay down the rules that Prince Harry and Markle need to abide by to obtain the privilege for their children.
The Monarch will most likely insist that Prince Harry and Markle stop publicly degrading the monarchy and the Royal Family.
The writer claimed via Palace Confidential: “But if that did happen, it is going to come with a caveat. He is going to insist that Harry and Meghan are respectful of the institution if they are taking the titles of the institution. That is very important to him.”
She revealed that “titles matter to Charles,” and he will not hand them out freely.
It has been confirmed that Prince Harry spoke to his father before flying back to California and revealed that he wants his children to use HRH status (His/Her Royal Highness).
Prince Harry and Markle were left “dismayed” that the simple princely titles matter was unresolved.
A royal source told The Times: “For [Buckingham Palace] not to make those changes suggests that something is off. Why not just change everything and do it at that moment?”
This week, a senior royal source, who was asked why the royal family website was not updated with the children’s new titles, had this to say: “That is still the status quo.”
King Charles now has an advantage over Markle and Prince Harry and can force them to respect his demands — the surprising events that took place in the Danish Royal Family.
Last week, Queen Margrethe announced that she removed titles from four of her eight grandchildren, saying it is “for their own good.”
Jacob Heinel Jensen, a royal correspondent, told MailOnline that King Charles is monitoring the Danish situation carefully to know what his next move should be.
He revealed: “Margrethe was very close to the Queen. She was one of the few people who called her “Lilibet” – and Her Majesty called her “Daisy,” her nickname in Denmark. I don’t know how close she is to Charles – but her importance as arguably Europe’s most senior royal was reflected in just how close she was to the Queen’s coffin in London. Charles has spoken about the need to slim down his family for many years – he will be watching what is happening in Denmark with great interest.”
King Charles will not cede on this matter.
