Prince Harry rejected Prince William‘s good intentions after a painful interview that surprised many.
In 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared in a TV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, after a trip through several countries on the Afican continent with their baby boy, Archie.
During the high-profile 10-day tour, the couple and their son visited South Africa, Malawi, Angola, and Botswana and participated in multiple royal engagements and charitable events.
Leaving the world and the royal family baffled, Prince Harry took part in an interview with journalist Tom Bradby and spoke for the first time about a fracture happening in his and Prince William’s relationship.
Prince Harry confessed that he and his brother are on different paths.
Prince William, King Charles III, and the rest of the royals were not given an advance copy of the documentary and, therefore, discovered Prince Harry’s pain and suffering.
According to royal expert Richard Eden, Prince William was emotional after seeing the documentary and quickly reached out to Prince Harry.
The heir to the throne told his younger brother he wanted to schedule a meeting with him so they could talk. Prince Harry wanted to know who else would know about the meeting.
Upon discovering that Prince William’s staff would be alerted by the meet-up, Prince Harry, who was suspicious of his surroundings, immediately canceled.
Speaking on Palace Confidential, Eden shared: “The first thing William wanted to do – he was shocked – was go to see his brother and talk about it. So, he made contact, but Harry wanted to know who would come with him, who would need to know about him coming, and William had to say, ‘Well, I would have to tell my private secretary because I will have to change my arrangements for tomorrow.”
He said that the incident revealed the level of paranoia that had already struck Prince Harry.
He stated: “And Harry reportedly said, ‘Well, if anyone else knows about it, do not come. And I mean that is really an insight into the paranoia [affecting Harry]. Just the level of distrust there was at this point, and you can tell that they really were on their way out of the Royal Family by then.”
In the documentary, Prince Harry sent shockwaves to Buckingham Palace when he revealed: “Part of this role and part of this job, this family, being under the pressure that it’s under, inevitably stuff happens.”
The renegade royal added: “But look, we’re brothers; we’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment, but I’ll always be there for him, and as I know, he’ll always be there for me. We’re so busy, but I love him dearly. The majority of this stuff [in the press] is created out of nothing, but as brothers, you know, you have good days, you have bad days.”
Years later, the two brothers are still not back on the same path.
