Many people in royal circles thought that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were making big changes to their upcoming projects to please King Charles III.
When news about the edits broke, it was said that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were willing to do anything to get The Sovereign‘s approval.
It seems that those early statements could not be further from the truth. The Sussexes wanted to review some of the things they said because they were reportedly in contradiction with past statements.
Netflix is moving ahead with a December release of the couple’s docu-series. The streaming giant wants the program to build on the audience of the new season of The Crown.
For various reasons, the two activists cannot be caught playing loose with facts. However, according to Page Six, some of the things they said in the series do not correspond to what Prince Harry’s stated in his tell-all memoir.
The book will be published next year via Penguin Random House. One insider told the New York media outlet: “A lot in the show contradicted what Harry has written, so that was an issue. Then Harry and Meghan made significant requests [to filmmakers] to walk back content they themselves have provided for their own project.”
The renegade royals reportedly wanted to push back the series until next year. Netflix was against the idea and moved in a different direction.
Insiders involved in the project told the publication that the couple spoke on camera about their royal relatives, including Prince William, Kate Middleton, Queen Consort Camilla, and of course, King Charles.
The powerful duo was not happy with the tone of some of the content and wanted to edit those parts. It is clear that Sussexes are working hard not to discredit their own project.
The British monarchy is anxiously waiting to review everything that the couple releases and will not hesitate to go on the offense if necessary. The Royal Family will use any faux pas to their advantage.
The philanthropists know that, and that is the reason why they are in no rush to move forward with those plans. However, the companies have other imperatives.
In need of money to maintain their lavish lifestyle, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also want to have a relationship with the Royal Family.
Royal expert Tom Bower told GB News earlier this week: “They need the money, and they need it now more than ever because they’ve got no other source of income. So I think they’re just stuck with the devil now. They’re tied to Netflix; they’re tied to their book. And all the criticism they’re going to take means nothing because that’s the only way they can earn their money. I don’t see how the Sussexes can give up both the Netflix and book deal.'”
The King would need to bail the pair out for them to give up on those lucrative deals. This is an unlikely scenario.
