King Charles III and a few people close to The Palace are watching with a lot of interests the different developments involving his son, Prince Harry, and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle.
The new Sovereign has adopted a harsher line regarding the power couple. This is a sea change when compared to Queen Elizabeth II, who had a soft spot for The Duke of Sussex.
The late Monarch was more forgiving of her grandchild’s sins. King Charles sees things very differently, and he believes that the only acceptable outcome is to bring the couple to their knees.
During the mourning period for The Queen, King Charles put the couple as far as possible from the real action. Their roles were reduced to almost nothing.
Sensing that there was a shift in the British monarchy, the Sussexes kept their heads down and played the game. However, with their return to California, the two activists were forced to face reality.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have huge bills to pay, and they do not have many options. The pair also knows that King Charles is lurking and waiting to exploit any mistake that they make.
That is the reason why the couple has decided to be extra careful. However, they have to deal with some giant companies that do not have much interest in palace intrigue.
Netflix and Penguin Random House invested a lot of money and now want to make a considerable profit. According to Netflix insiders, the situation is very difficult for the renegade royals.
One source told Page Six: “A lot in the show contradicted what Harry has written, so that was an issue. Then Harry and Meghan made significant requests [to filmmakers] to walk back content they themselves have provided for their own project.”
Royal author Tom Boyer sat down with GB News for an interview, and he said the walls are closing in on the power couple. They do not hold the cards.
He stated: “They need the money, and they need it now more than ever because they’ve got no other source of income. So I think they’re just stuck with the devil now. They’re tied to Netflix; they’re tied to their book. And all the criticism they’re going to take means nothing because that’s the only way they can earn their money. I don’t see how the Sussexes can give up both the Netflix and book deal.”
Observers believe that Markle’s Spotify podcast can offer them a way out if it is done properly. It can help build a product that is not just about grievances linked to the Royal Family.
No matter what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do, King Charles will be watching to ensure that they do not go after the monarchy in a direct fashion.
He will withhold the titles of his grandchildren — Archie and Lilibet Diana — until he is certain the Sussexes are going to be on their best behavior.
