After a brief delay, Meghan Markle got her big moment — the Variety cover for the “Power of Women” issue.
This week, the publication unveiled the much-awaited cover and accompanying interview where Markle touched on a wide range of topics.
The former actress turned royal turned businesswoman spoke about life in California with her husband, Prince Harry, and their young children, Archie and Lilibet Diana.
Meghan Markle also opened up for the first time about Queen Elizabeth II after her passing on September 8 in Scotland.
Markle and Prince Harry stayed in England for about ten days to attend the Queen‘s funeral alongside King Charles III and many other royal family members.
The pair joined Prince William and Kate Middleton in a walkabout in front of Windsor Castle, where they met with thousands of mourners.
Markle said that she and her husband are grateful for the love and support that they have received during this complicated period.
The activist shared: “There’s been such an outpouring of love and support. I’m really grateful that I was able to be with my husband to support him, especially during that time.”
The Duchess of Sussex confessed that since the passing of the Monarch, she had had time to reflect on her tremendous legacy and the warm and historical moments they spent together.
Markle revealed that she is honored to have had the privilege to witness up close and personal the Queen’s extraordinary leadership and legacy as it was unfolding.
The philanthropist stated: “What’s so beautiful is to look at the legacy that his grandmother was able to leave on so many fronts. Certainly, in terms of female leadership, she is the most shining example of what that looks like. I feel deep gratitude to have been able to spend time with her and get to know her.”
Markle will not have that honor with King Charles because, in 2020, she and Prince Harry stepped down as working royals and relocated to California.
Moving on with the conversation, Markle confessed that she had been inspired by the Queen’s astonishing 70 years of service to the British monarchy and the world.
The author told the publication: “In big moments in life, you get a lot of perspectives. It makes you wonder what you want to focus your energy on. Right now, we feel energized and excited about all of the things we’ve been building toward. We’re also focused on our foundation. So much of the work we do includes the philanthropic space.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still have some issues with the Royal Family.
