Meghan Markle caused uproar and received praise after she made an unannounced appearance in Texas after a tragic event.
On May 24, 2022, another American tragedy occurred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 innocent children and two heroic teachers, Eva Mireles and Irma Garcia, were gunned down as the police stood idly by in front of the school.
The pouring of love and support came from near and far. Meghan Markle made a brief visit to the area, where she placed a bouquet of white roses at a memorial outside the Uvalde County Courthouse.
Prince Harry‘s wife also helped some of the volunteers who were present to organize blood donations.
In the photos, The Duchess of Sussex looked pensive as she walked through the newly constructed memorial that featured makeshift crosses with the names of the young victims and the teachers who sacrificed their lives to save others.
Many in the press and social media slammed Markle for using the horrific event as a low PR stunt for social and political gains.
Others claimed she was making a statement on gun control because she was planning to run for president.
According to a new book, King Charles, Kate Middleton, and Prince William supported Markle’s move and which is why there was zero criticism from Buckingham Palace about the trip.
According to Christopher Andersen, the author of the new book, The King: The Life of Charles III, the Royal Family understood why Markle deemed it necessary to show respect to the mourning community.
He wrote via Yahoo and Newsweek: “None of the senior royals stepped forward to criticize Meghan’s decision to visit Uvalde. Charles and the Cambridges, in particular, were shaken by what had happened—a stark reminder that thousands of Americans were losing their lives to senseless gun violence every year.”
The royal biographer also claimed that Kate Middleton spoke to a friend about Meghan Markle’s decision.
The book revealed the private conversation: “Kate told a friend that she understood why Meghan, as an American and the mother of two young children, would feel compelled to show up in person.”
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is known for making unexpected appearances when she deems them necessary.
The author shared: “The Princess of Wales made her own unannounced appearance to a candlelight vigil in London for a young woman [Sarah Everard] who a police officer had murdered. There are times in both Kate and Meghan’s lives when they feel compelled to do something outside of their public protocol.”
However, according to Andersen, there is a “glaring difference” in how the media covered the two trips. The press painted Middleton’s gesture as kind, and Markle received harsh coverage.
The author stated: “The glaring difference was that Kate had not been subjected to the sort of blistering criticism now aimed at her American sister-in-law.”
The Sussexes have complained for a long time about the way the press deals with them.
