As the new Monarch, King Charles III is getting ready to celebrate his first Christmas without Queen Elizabeth II.
King Charles and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, have decided to respect all of Queen Elizabeth’s holiday traditions.
The Royal Family has been invited to celebrate the year-end festivities at the Sandringham estate.
A close friend of King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort, has confirmed to The Daily Beast: “It will be very strange for the family to be at Sandringham without the queen at Christmas. However, the past two years have been fairly strange because of COVID, so at this stage, they are just hoping, like everyone else, that a big gathering can go ahead.”
The royal insider also revealed that the King has invited Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the family gathering in Norfolk, England, but does not expect them to make it because of the pending memoir.
Prince William, his wife, Kate Middleton, and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — will be in Sandringham this year.
William, Prince of Wales, who is now the heir to the throne, no longer has the choice and will be taking part in official royal duties during the holidays.
During Queen Elizabeth’s reign, Prince William and his children often spent Christmas with Catherine, Princess of Wales‘s parents — Carole Middleton and Michael Middleton.
Carole and Michael Middleton reside in Berkshire, near the Waleses’ new family home, Adelaide Cottage, part of the Windsor estate.
Prince William is very close to his in-laws and has a habit of spending lots of private family time with them.
However, now that King Charles has taken the throne, things will be done differently.
The Daily Beast reports: “Prince William and Kate are expected to be at Sandringham, the friend said. With William now heir to the throne, the days of being able to duck out of the duties of the official royal Christmas and slip off to Kate’s house are likely over for good.”
It is worth noting that in the book, The New Royals by author Katie Nicholl, it was revealed that King Charles: “Had been hurt by not seeing as much of his Cambridge grandchildren as he might have liked.”
By cutting down some of the Wales’s private time with the Middletons, King Charles will get to spend more time with his grandchildren.
King Charles, a doting grandfather, will not be able to see Archie and Lilibet for Christmas, so he will therefore spoil the Waleses’ children.
