Prince Harry chose to leave his country and his duty as a royal for the well-being of his wife, Meghan Markle. For many, “Megxit” was a total shocker, something that no one could have imagined.
However, the signs were always there. Markle had a hard time fitting into the Royal Family from the very start, and she found very little support.
The Duke of Sussex did his best to stand up for her, but that was not enough. However, he was surprised to find out that he could not even get the support of his late mother, Princess Diana‘s family.
The royal tried to convince them that there were some similarities between Markle and his mom, a woman he lost at the age of 12 in 1997.
This angle is now being brought to light to illustrate the complexities of the relationship between the couple and Prince Harry’s family.
Royal author Tom Bower has covered the matter in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors.
Bower claimed: “Harry assumed that Diana’s family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée. Both, he said, shared the same problems. He was disappointed. No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend. More discomforting for him, they thought Meghan would not fit in with the Royal Family.”
Interestingly, Prince William backed the family and urged them to voice their unease.
The author continued: “Their unease was voiced by Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother. At William’s request, Spencer weighed in. Three times married, Spencer cautioned his nephew to reconsider his haste toward marriage. His advice provoked a bitter reaction.”
Later on, Markle and her husband would encounter more mental health challenges. Prince Harry wanted to do all that was possible to protect his wife in a way his father, King Charles III, never did for his mother as she was dealing with different issues.
He stated: “My biggest concern was history repeating itself. I’ve said that before on numerous occasions very publicly. And what I was seeing was history repeating itself, but more, perhaps, or definitely far more, dangerous because then you add a race in, and you add social media in.”
Prince Harry saw something in Meghan Markle that no one else could see. Years later, his family on both sides still does not see it.
At the root of the clashes, there is a man who decided to put his wife above everything else. True reconciliation will not be possible before King Charles and Prince William can get to that point.
