Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, do not intend to cede the spotlight to Prince William and Kate Middleton during their trip to the United States.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex seem to be doing all they can to get a lot of attention. The Prince and Princess of Wales are making their first official visit to America in 8 years for the Earthshot Prize awards in Boston.
The California residents released an 80-second trailer for the 2023 Invictus Games as soon as the heir to the throne and his spouse landed in the US.
It features the Sussexes playing table tennis. Ping-pong will be included in the Invictus Games for the first time. The Waleses are finding it very difficult to compete against the Sussexes, who have become masters at playing the media game.
Moreover, the renegade royals also have a home-court advantage. This was illustrated by the icy reception Prince William and Kate Middleton got at a Boston Celtics basketball game on Wednesday.
While the fight for headlines is happening by default instead by design, the two sides are putting their best foot forward in order to prevail.
The power couple is receiving the Ripple of Hope award from the Robert F Kennedy foundation on December 6. The Sussexes are premiering their Netflix documentary on December 8.
One month later, Prince Harry will release his tell-all memoir Spare via Penguin Random House.
Moreover, the Duchess of Sussex is ramping up her solo appearances via speeches and Zoom calls. All of these projects need to be promoted, so, in a way, the rebellious royals are just doing their job. However, besting the Waleses appears to be the icing on their cake.
The Daily Mirror‘s Royal Editor Russell Myers feels like the Sussexes are making moves to steal the spotlight from their estranged relatives.
He stated during an appearance on The Today Show with journalist Allison Langdon: “These two [the Sussexes] are up to something because I’ve just seen some pictures drop of Meghan at some sort of thanksgiving women’s refuge. I think there is a bit of power play going on. But William and Kate are there for serious business because this Earthshot project is very important to him.”
Myers continued: “I’m sure Meghan and Harry have got a few things up their sleeve because they are over in the US. But I’m told there’s no plan for them to meet, unsurprisingly. I don’t think there will be rubbing shoulders this week.”
Getting overshadowed by Prince Harry and his spouse could make things worse between the four royals. The trip is very important for Prince William.
He believes climate change is a crucial issue. Moreover, as the heir to the throne, he also needs to show the world that the British monarchy will always be in good hands.
