T. J. Holmes and Amy Robach‘s affair has sparked a lot of reactions on social media. The Good Morning America co-hosts are married to other people — Marilee Fiebig and Andrew Shue.
However, the story is more complicated than a so-called cheating scandal. More revelations are surfacing every day, painting a more nuanced picture of what has happened.
It has been reported that Holmes and Robach were not in happy marriages. The 45-year-old Arkansas native has even admitted publicly that he has put his estranged wife, Marilee Fiebig, in a lot of tricky situations.
Holmes has claimed that he was surprised that their marriage lasted more than a decade, and it would be too much if he asked for more. The CNN alum has been honest; he was the one causing most of the pain.
As for Robach, while things looked great with Shue from the outside, they reportedly had their own set of marital issues. Sources close to the former couple are now talking to the media.
An insider told PEOPLE: “They were waiting on [the settlement] to tell people. The whole point of why she waited to share the news that her marriage was over: she went to [divorce] mediation.”
The person continued: “The woman had cancer for a long time. She was very preoccupied with that. Stuff with her and Andrew was difficult starting early summer this year, and they had issues before.”
A second source told the same publication: “Amy was going through a heartache, and TJ was very much there for her and helpful, and that is when they started something. They had no shame going out together and have been publicly doing this for much longer than a month.”
Holmes and Robach left their respective spouses in August and are confident that they did nothing wrong. On their end, this is just a loving relationship between two consenting adults.
However, other reports suggest that the relationship started sometime around March, and the August timeline is just PR.
Interestingly, it has been revealed that Holmes previously cheated on Fiebig with a former GMA producer Natasha Singh.
The romance reportedly started in 2016 and ended three years later. Fiebig was deeply affected by this affair, which made her very suspicious moving forward. However, she was still blindsided by this new one.
Robach allegedly played a central role there because she was a listening ear for the two main protagonists. She was sympathetic to their messy love tales.
A source told Page Six: “Amy was the person they went to talk to about their affair and marriages.” However, another insider said that Robach only found out about the affair when it was ending.
Singh and Robach remained friends until earlier this year when the CBS Mornings producer found out about Holmes’s close relationship with his co-host.
